I have a twin Tortoise egg incubating. It's two separate eggs attached at the ends
Quote: Wait...I realized just as I hit 'send' that you said LG, but because it's excruciating to try to type answers on my phone I went to get my laptop. Is the temp higher near the motor of your turner? If so, that's a better spot to put the smallest eggs so they aren't subjected to the higher heat output. The larger ones have a larger internal mass than the smaller eggs and hold heat better. You can also add a strip of folded foil to make a deflector to shield the eggs in the hotter areas. Likewise you can use a piece of foil to line the colder corner to better reflect the heat back at that area. One last thing: you can check the heating element to see if it's bent in an asymmetrical shape- I have had one like that and you can let it cool and gently adjust it...or use fireplace gloves...but this isn't a good idea in the middle of a brood unless you have a backup plan. Something can go wrong!!
Wet sponges add humidity. You can use clay pellets from the reptile section of the pet store to add heat ballast and dry they'll reduce humidity, damp, they'll increase it. I ignore humidity and don't add water until someone pips, but each can choose what works best in their incubator/region. Look in my signature for the 'why' and 'how' of a dry incubation method.okay - day one - I cant seem to get the humidity right.... it was working fine with my "test" eggs, wouldn't you know...
i read about adding sponges to help. am i adding sponges to reduce the humidity or increase it??
using a hava-bator with fan; and egg turner
Edited to finish incomplete thoughts...
Do share what those eggs of your are! Lavender!!?!
no idea why I counted these but I did and counted 53. Twice lol
Well I thought I was going to church lol
But on the way there my 6 yr old son was having issues holding down breakfast :-&
Poor guy! Probably a virus![]()
Well Maybe I can get all the eggs candled for lockdown this afternoon.
I use sealed fish tank thermometers and make sure they all read the same in the store. They aren't affected by humidity like some others. You can see the type I use in the cheat sheet in my signature.
You could try to add a small fan to move more air, but I'd go ahead and turn the turner on to see if that changes things. what kind of incubator are you using?
