okay - day one - I cant seem to get the humidity right.... it was working fine with my "test" eggs, wouldn't you know...

i read about adding sponges to help. am i adding sponges to reduce the humidity or increase it??

Wet sponges add humidity. You can use clay pellets from the reptile section of the pet store to add heat ballast and dry they'll reduce humidity, damp, they'll increase it. I ignore humidity and don't add water until someone pips, but each can choose what works best in their incubator/region. Look in my signature for the 'why' and 'how' of a dry incubation method.

But on the way there my 6 yr old son was having issues holding down breakfast :-&
Poor guy! Probably a virus
Well Maybe I can get all the eggs candled for lockdown this afternoon.

Well Maybe I can get all the eggs candled for lockdown this afternoon.

We just went through this with our 5year old lasted almost 24hours and poor thing was stuck in the bathroom. I didnt let him eat all day and then he made it through the night with no incidence so I have him some Gatorade and yogurt this morning to start him off. Holding everything down well now so far...no fun when they're sick. hope he feels better soon!

I use sealed fish tank thermometers and make sure they all read the same in the store. They aren't affected by humidity like some others. You can see the type I use in the cheat sheet in my signature.

You could try to add a small fan to move more air, but I'd go ahead and turn the turner on to see if that changes things. what kind of incubator are you using?

It's an LG. I have 2 therms and now they read 101 and 99, in opposite corners. I took four eggs out, the 2 closest to the motor of the turner where it reads so hot and the 2 in the other corner that were cool. I put the 4 of them in the still air LG that I am usisng for the extra eggs sent by the breeders. I normally use that one for lock down. I never used that one for hatching but read a lot on this site and am hoping it will be ok. The temp is even in that one. I have the shipped eggs in an egg carton and after a few more days of settling I will put a rotate a book around under the incubator to turn the eggs. These are all things I read here. Do you agree? The first one with the fan and turner is driving me crazy!
