GOOD MORNING EVERYONE !!! I set a little after 3 yesterday. Unfortunately we discovered our dog. Phoenix a boxer, had a stroke:( It made him blind in right eye and right side of face drooped. He stumbles but it does look like he will pull through. We have had him since a puppy. He is 9 yrs old now. Its amazing how you can get so attached to animals. He is family to us along with our chickens.

I'm so sorry! Maybe things will get better Ive heard of stroke victims coming out of the dropping before, not to give you false hope. It is crazy how quickly our pets become like family hard to imagine life without them. I've lost many over the years and never gets any easier. I hope everything goes well for your big guy. Just remember no matter what that he knows you guys love him.

We just went through this with our 5year old :( lasted almost 24hours and poor thing was stuck in the bathroom. I didnt let him eat all day and then he made it through the night with no incidence so I have him some Gatorade and yogurt this morning to start him off. Holding everything down well now so far...no fun when they're sick. :( hope he feels better soon!

THANKS!!!
I kinda have been just waiting for this to happen :( cause fri night at volleyball game I saw a lil boy throwing up like crazy in a trash can and once our game was over ... Guess who my son was playing with..... Lol yep! The sick one haha
I am glad Noah? Is feeling better today! :)

Wait...I realized just as I hit 'send' that you said LG, but because it's excruciating to try to type answers on my phone I went to get my laptop. Is the temp higher near the motor of your turner? If so, that's a better spot to put the smallest eggs so they aren't subjected to the higher heat output. The larger ones have a larger internal mass than the smaller eggs and hold heat better. You can also add a strip of folded foil to make a deflector to shield the eggs in the hotter areas. Likewise you can use a piece of foil to line the colder corner to better reflect the heat back at that area. One last thing: you can check the heating element to see if it's bent in an asymmetrical shape- I have had one like that and you can let it cool and gently adjust it...or use fireplace gloves...but this isn't a good idea in the middle of a brood unless you have a backup plan. Something can go wrong!!

Wet sponges add humidity. You can use clay pellets from the reptile section of the pet store to add heat ballast and dry they'll reduce humidity, damp, they'll increase it. I ignore humidity and don't add water until someone pips, but each can choose what works best in their incubator/region. Look in my signature for the 'why' and 'how' of a dry incubation method.

Edited to finish incomplete thoughts...

Thanks for all this...will try. Does any manufacturer make a decent incubator for back yard chickens?

Well I just got done reading 120. plus posts. You all habe been busy. I only got my shipped eggs in last night. One of my bators has a wager not working and my cabinet had a change in temps when i put the wet trays in. I will be setting the reat thos evening when i get home from work. I set 15 Silkiesfeathered AMs and 7 Wheaton Marans. I have 7 plus dozen of my own eggs and 13 socvey eggs ( friend found out i waa incubating and came down) i will be setting quail eggs in a couple days.
Why you hiding Sally?

I didn't enter the hatch-along this time - didn't see the point since Canadians can't win any of the prizes - but I am setting eggs today for hatching on Easter Sunday so I have been following along sporadically with the hatch here. Since I started my own Canadian facebook page I have more than enough eggs to buy/swap/trade! So exciting.

I've been dealing with a migraine for 3 days, so I still don't know my number I'll try tomorrow. If anyone wants to count it's these plus one I forgot to put in the picture.

You and I are in the same boat this morning. My DS is just under 2 and he lost his whole breakfast in about 30 minutes. Now it's apple juice mixed with pedialite. I think I have a similar bug but thankfully a tougher stomach. Good luck, hope he feels better soon.

Hey guys!
I have 6 olive-egger eggs and 3 Cream Legbar eggs of mine ready to set today.

I also have 11 Cream Legbar eggs that were shipped to me. When I checked the air-cells yesterday only 3 were nice and intact. I checked 4 of the ones that were loose just now and 1 of those had somewhat reattached. What would you seasoned hatchers do?? Wait another day, start my other eggs and add the rest tomorrow, or start them without the turner on?

Put them in an egg carton wide end up. To "turn" them, just tip one end of the carton. (prop it up on tupperware) You don't want the eggs with detached air cells laying on their side - you want it to reattach in the right spot.
