As a reminder, post pictures of your total eggs set for the hatch - so we can record them and get the "How many will hatch contest going". The eggs need to be set between 3/7-3/11 to qualify for this hatch.

Oh I wish I knew those dates, I was supposed to pick up free hatching eggs from a BYC member yesterday for the hatch but couldnt make the drive because of sick DD so I set my eggs and turned down hers.

Question - I have one lone chick in the hatcher and can see no more pips. Today is day 20 for that batch. Should I take that one out and put it in the brooder alone or leave it til another hatches? It was born early this morning (daylight.)

I set 71 eggs all together. Attached is a photo of some of them! Excited about chicks.

I just hatched out some this week also. Barred Rocks and New Hampshires from Good Shepherd Poultry Ranch. Exciting Spring!!!!

The best way to determine whether your humidity is appropriate is to keep an eye on the evaporation as we progress through the incubation period.

The size of the air cell should change accordingly with this image, so if your air cell is larger than depicted or smaller than depicted, you need to adjust your humidity.

When you candle on day 7, your air cell should be about this size. If it's smaller, you need to drop the humidity. If the air cell is larger, you need to put a sponge in a small bowl in there (orsomesuch) to bring the humidity up. Likewise, check it again at day 14 and see where you stand. Be sure to check several eggs from various parts of the incubator- you may just want to rotate them around the incubator and get them equalized.

Most importantly, RELAX!!! This isn't some precise perfection, as much as we talk about it. There is room for fluctuating temps and humidity. Always try not to use your thermostat to adjust your temps- you can take plugs out to cool it off and add them in to raie the temps. Give any change only the slightest bit of a nudge, and wait several hours for it to stabilize before changing it again.
