Congrats!

So, today was great, but so horrible at the same time. I had fun out on the creek, but I ended up with a sunburn on my face, arms, and left hand. Needless to say, I'm not feeling so great right now. I got some great pics and saw around 12 wild mallards, but we couldn't get close enough to them for me to get a pic.

We even got yelled at by what I think was a king fisher bird.

We set 8 eggs total, but unfortunately I am NOT smart enough to download a pic. Is that OK? I sorry! Oh and we set them the morning of 3/9/13, so Saturday (yesterday)

so now that we have an official time frame to set eggs to be in the contest is it ok if the people who already posted photos (like me) to add to their count? like I have eggs coming monday that I would love to add to the hatch and i will also be able to ad a few more barnyard mix as well since it will still be within the two day grace period. but I don't want to add unnecessary confusion either.

As long as they are set within the time frame (for chicken eggs) you're fine - go ahead and add them.

I just candled a few of the eggs under my broody again. Three of them that I looked at were interesting. One half of the egg was dark red with a vein or something running around the egg between the light and dark sides, kind of like a divider. I'm assuming this means that the chicks are developing, as today is between day 8 and 9 (they were set at night) I am reeeally hoping that the darkness isn't something like bacteria. I've never hatched eggs before, so forgive me if the answer's obvious. I'm off to research this a bit and see what's going on.

Hey Sally, When was the last time your bator was empty?

They arrive full of eggs, don't they??? That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

My husband just surprised me for my bday with a Brinsea Octagon 20 ECO incubator.... it'll be here around my bday (April 4th). So excited to try that out when it gets here

Not sure but that kind-of sounds like a blood ring to me. I think that means the embryo has died.

Sorry.

Edit - Do they look like the top right photo in THIS link?

Oh no! I just did a Google search of egg pictures with bacteria rings, and I think that's what it might be! That means I may not have any eggs hatch at all!

I feel so bad! I checked them just a few days ago and they were alive and fine. I tried to be really careful with them and not move very fast. I hope I didn't kill them

As a reminder, post pictures of your total eggs set for the hatch - so we can record them and get the "How many will hatch contest going". The eggs need to be set between 3/7-3/11 to qualify for this hatch.

I added two to my setting... I HAD 24 Serama eggs set, and my pic is somewhere in the thread... but I added two just now, since my girls were generous enough to give me two eggs today O.O So total Serama eggies for me: 26!!!
