The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

Okey Dokey...51 eggs are going into two incubators. The breeders sent extras so I am putting 10 eggs into an LG still incubator with no fan or turner. I have the eggs in eggs cartons with holes in the bottom of each cup for air circulation. To turn I will use the book under the bator sides method to tilt the eggs rather than going into the bator and turning. I am doing a dry 'er' hatch, maintaining about 30% this time as so many here suggested it but will go to 70% humidity at lock down. My other LG has a fan and a turner but even after the 24 hour rest of these shipped eggs I am going not turn the turner on until after 4 days to allow the air cell to settle. I am using four new Accurite therms with humidity gauges as suggested by several members. My others were all off. Keeping my fingers crossed that there are no storms and power outages common to the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carloina this time year! I am incubating Cream Legbars, Swedish Flower Hens, Chocolate Orpingtons, Lavender Orpingtons, Barnevelders, and some beautiful project birds called Blue/Gold Partridge Brahmas.

High anxiety time! Good luck to you all!

are blue eggs on the left front cream legbars? the blue look good and blue is it. Been outbid at the last moment everytime. I'll get some yet.

Here are mine- the white ones were set 3/1 but the other 13 were set today at 12:00. ( i had 14 but noticed one has a crack so i didn't put it in the incubator)
I melted wax on the crack of one of my shipped eggs last year year and it Hatched. It is not to late to try if ya didn't eat it.. lol

Seems like I am a day late for this but I set 41 eggs today. I have a mix of LF bbs Orps, EEs and EE over BCM. This is my first ever attempt at hatching.

If you don't mind I will follow along since I should just be a day later on my hatch if I have any to hatch that is.

When I have to wash eggs, I let them air dry and then mist them with a solution of Betadine (povidone iodine) from the drug store and water- usually around a 2 to 1 water to iodine solution. After the first side dries I roll them over and spray them again. This gives them an antimicrobial coating to replace the bloom and seems to work well.
that is good to know going to store it my pea braid for future use. My 1 marans seem to be pigs. she always poops on her egg.

Thank you all for the input! I will leave the eggs there for a little while yet and see what happens with the eggs. Joy, they do look similar to that first picture, but the line is cleaner all the way around. It isn't "spotty", like in that picture.

And just in case the verdict is bad, after all...........I've got my Icelandics back in the breeder pen.

Cynthia, I would get more eggs.........but I only want Icelandics right now. I can't commit to getting more breeds just yet

Beautiful eggs!!!
I would love to set a group like that
But I prob would go out of my mind once they all started hatching lol whew! Lol
unfortunately I haven't deloped a good hatching rate on the marans eggs. But they were here so why not hatch RIGHT. i AM SO BAD..
The cuckoos hatch pretty good. the wheatens maybe 50%. any help and ideas appeciated. Even thought of layer them down flat to see if that work for me.
The hens just went back to laying so they should be fertile. have 3 roosters in with wheatens Only 1 with the cuckoo group 1
I 'll know in 19 to 21 days.
they usually start hatch at 19 days At least one then the other follow the next day....

Renee uses a different turner, one with flat areas between eggs so it is easy to lay a small fish tank style them betwen rows of eggs. THat would determine the position of th lid for the best view. In your case do the best you c an.

102 would be the top of the eggs. 99.5-100 at mid height or average thru out the incubator if fan in use. I track floor temp and temp on top of eggs, or at half height. You will know if the temp is running too high by the hatch date.

Glad you have it all worked out!!

Okay, finally got set tonight - 30 eggs. Ignore the mud, we've had some rain here and I'm test hatching some new pens that insist on laying in the run, instead of the nice cozy nest box
