Is blood normal while hatching ?
Uh oh! Don't think so, but I bet Sally or someone would know better. I've heard sometimes they can peck their own artery/vein & bleed out. I hope it's not that serious!

Whew, Caught up yet again. Boy this thread is moving fast. Seems like I go away for a few mins and I've got 5 pages of reading to do LOL Love the goat pics.... SO darn cute. I've wanted goats for years but hubby says no (you'd think after 17 yrs he'd learn, I WILL eventually get them LOL) Loving all the egg pics. I cant wait till the 30th. My broody is doing her job and keeping them nice and warm. So proud of my broody.. she's been sitting since Dec!! As of this morning, I have 1 new chick. He's a big one!!! really fluffy. The girl I got them from said they were Amerucauna (sp) eggs (I was thinking EE) but he looks different than my EE chicks. Hmmmmmm.... the mysteries of chick husbandry. Will get a pic asap of the chick and see what y'all think. Edited to add pic:
So darn cute!!!

Quote: She looks malpositioned, she may have just stuck her toe through the shell, usually they pip that tiny crack pip and rest for 24 sometimes more sometimes less hrs and then finally zip, its weird the hole is that big and she has active membranes yet. If she is still bleeding there you can always hold a dry Ptowel on it until it stops in a few seconds but if its just a drop or two she will be ok and pray its not leaking inside. not sure there is anything else you can do but let her rest for a while yet. Just remember the stages and dont confuse them, they pip and then they acclimate lungs and absorb its a loooooonggg time as I stated above before actual zipping occurs. If she is active and not bleeding out she will be fine! You have some gorgeous eggs hatching! how many pips you have now? I see popcorn time tonight!

We have 9/31 that have pipped....
This one is crazy it pipped yesterday evening and see all the others just have pipped and are laid back in their easy chair snoozing but this one keeps pushing with its beak and chirping and really doesn't seem to want to rest .... It isn't bleeding anymore and I don't see any blood in the shell with the chick .... And the chick seems to be doing its same ol same ol .... I hope everything is ok in there:-/
