I'm getting a Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco in a few days (It's currently in MN waiting to be shipped down here). I take it you like your Brinsea? Mine is the manual turn model. I am excited to get it.

Uh yup. Got three of the Octagons and two of the Minis. I haven't used them over a year because..... I keep all my hatchlings. When cockerels begin to crow, I have a friend with a Freezer Camp set-up who will take them. I am one "over" my agreed-upon limit of two roosters.

So I had to stop incubating.... However, this year's Easter Hatch sucked me right back into it. I don't have any Speckled Sussex in my flock; I also scored some LC and BBS Orpington eggs, so we'll see what I get to add. There are currently two BO hens (one is an original chick from my first 8 chicks purchased at a feed store) and two Self-blue Orpingtons. Love those fluffy butt ladies!

Now I just have to resist the upcoming Cinco De Mayo Turkey Hatch-along.....

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I just candled and 4 out of 5 eggs are developing! I don't think my white leghorn egg was ever fertile because it is completely clear. One of my easter eggers has a red line around the egg. Is this a blood ring?

You can see the embryo at the top near the air cell and then the red line at the bottom. There are also veins in between the embryo and the red line. The line is also the strongest on this side. On the other side it weaves a little and is harder to see. Sorry I know this picture is not the best. Thanks!

That's a tough one..are you seeing the baby move? Of course, if it's moving, don't worry about it. That is a pretty thick line, but, if that baby is moving, it's ok so far. Keep an eye on it though.

This is the easiest embryo to see out of the 4 developing eggs. I have been seeing this baby since day 4 and I have never seen it move.

I am going to candle again on day 10 and if it is bad then the embryo will be the same size right? By then I think that I will be able to tell. I am just going to hope for the best. Thank you!
