3 hatched so far. Hoping the other 32 make it as well. Had a little trouble with the first one, initially who was ripping and zipping like crazy. She ended up on her head and started back around and stopped. Finally, she stomped and kicked her way off of her head and made it out.
Meanwhile, 2 others, pipped, ripped and popped right out not wasting a minute of time. Then flopping around and crawling on everything making quite a mess!

Had a bit to do today, company, phone calls re: chicks and friends over to help hubby put up a swing/jamboree frame. Of course, had to cook them supper. Just finished!
I'm including pictures of the 3 of them. The 2nd and 3rd chicks are dry and fluffed while the 1st but last is still a bit wet/drying in the picture. Thanks so much for the info and support!!!

Hopefully more to come. . .

Sally.................something for you to look forward to.............................my Cream Legbar eggs. The picture does not do them justice, but it's the best I could do. She laid about 2 pullet sized eggs, then went to large sized eggs.

I do not add humidity until first pip. I live in a humid climate and my humidity in my bator stays around 30% through the whole hatch. I do check air cells to make sure I do not need more humidity. When I get first pip I boost my humidity to 60%. After first hatch, the humidity goes up all on its own. I keep my temp at 99.5-100. I do not go over. I rarely have health issues. Like spongy belly's, or splay legs since I have changed my humidity practice. My hatch rate is better and this time around I am hoping for 100%. I have 100% fertility and this is a first. I have had no quiters or early deaths, and that is a firsts.

Same here I do not add Humidity at all until first pip then around 60% . I was wondering about that when they start hatching it goes up to 80-90% but I have had Great hatch rate.

I had my first ever hatch on March 7th, and no matter what I tried I could not get the humidity level up past 59% for lockdown. I used sponges, little cups of water, filled both water wells of my Hovabator tray, and even had water boiling on the wood stove in the room. By the way, I did not have the red plugs in the air vents at the top of the incubator, even though it was tempting to increase the humidity. Towards the end of the 2nd day of hatching, I had to assist two that were "shrink wrapped", and then after that these two assist, the rest of the eggs didn't even pip. I was able to hatch 19 out of 36. I have another 42 eggs set for the hatch-a-long, and I don't want to have a repeat of low humidity problems at lockdown. I bought a humidifier to test out the increase if any at this point, but it only increased the humidity up 2%. What else can I do to increase humidity?

ANYONE wish to donate a small prize/s (dont have to be eggs) if I run a "Random Funny Posting Contest" this weekend? I have only a few small prizes so far and it would be nice to have one "ACTIVE" Contest like this and give a bunch of small cool prizes. oh and if you wish to donate, you can still play! PM me for donating please!

This is what I am thinking.....
I would like to hold a "Random Funny Posting Contest" this Saturday eve from ?pm to ?pm. TBD
Pictures, quotes, stories, jokes, etc. The funniest will be judged by number of times it's quoted or how many people claim to have lost control of bodily functions laughing so hard. Ok just kidding, I will use a random number generator to select winners after we reach our goal!

NO "single" posting, has to be meaningful posts, short sentence forms and emoticons must at least be accomponied by a LOL! or a HA HA HA (If a single posting has been chosen it is void and another number will be chosen. Winners will be announced on the Thread The following day. (this gives time to sort!)

THOUGHTS and any interest??????

Sounds interesting. Wish I had something to offer.

Just got back from the post office with my chick order... but they are the wrong chicks. I have already figured it out with the hatchery and they were great and easy to work with, but I thought it would be fun if everyone guessed what they were. (although what the hatchery says they are and what i think they are is still different- so this will be a fun experiment)

I think I see a couple of different breeds in there .. on being Welsummer? Not sure about the ones with the dots on the heads. I love Welsummers!
