The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

I finally got my computer back, so here are my pictures. I set 14 eggs on the 9th. As of today there are only 7 left, but not bad for shipped eggs. I saw movement in 6 and the other is too dark to see movement, but I can make out veins.

Well,I just pulled out 2 more Cochins, so 1 left out of 15. I really hope that little bugger makes it. I did an eggtopsy on them, and the one died about 3 days ago, I think. The other was today or yesterday. The difference in development is amazing. The older one was amazingly chick like. Black down was growing, beak, toes, eyelids all there. It honestly looked only slightly smaller than my Seramas at hatch, and complete. So close little buddy. BUT now I know what the others must look like right now, so I'm all the more excited.

I know who left the cochin eggs in her bator for you!

Whew, I also had the opportunity to learn about various stages of final development this morning! Sad, kinda, sure, but very informative! Out of 35, had 12 make it, so it was biology 101 on the remaining 24. It was a collection of eggs over a 10+ day period, so I went in with my eyes wide open. Next time, it should be more successful from this experience. Still, it has been worth every minute of it! BYC is fantastic!

Also known as a wax pen or "kistka".

I've looked at all the hobby stores in our valley and can't find one! I could get one on the internet, but shipping is so expensive for such a small item! Does anyone either a) have any they could sell, or b) know how to make one?

I am no expert and have never seen these or know how they work but all but the top one looks home made. So I assume you put wax in the cavity heat it and it drips out the bottom.

For those of you keeping track......on 9 march I set 24 eggs. Candled on day 7 and removed 5 (4 clears and a quitter) tonight I candled again and got another blood ring, so I removed it also. So as of right now I have 18 healthy eggs left in the Bator and there is a lot of good movement going on. However the air cell seems a little small right now so going to lower the humidity until lock down. Hopefully all 18 make it.
