Welcome to BYC! It is ridiculously great fun! Good luck on your hatch!!We have started our first hatch. We have Japanese Bantams, Ameracunnas, Dutch Bantams. I have always said I will Never have Bantams! The Dutch eggs we just candled and we actually saw the little chicken inside. We look forward to the hatch which could start Easter.
I see you'll be getting more bantams. I know what you mean. I wanted a few Seramas. Never got them, but I kept falling in love with the little bords I have now. Still prefer my LF though. What color are your Japs that you're hatching?Welcome to BYC! It is ridiculously great fun! Good luck on your hatch!!![]()

Yay, Bantams! Thank you wolftracks so much for donating! I never win anything, ever, lol. I just had great fun doing the funny post contest. Sally has a way of 'egging' you on, ha! Sorry, a little slap happy. Going to bed in a sec. Again, thank you! We are just in the process of designing our banty coop, have Olandsk Dwarves chicks coming next month. Guess we better get a move on with that. Langshans are so lovely!I didn't see that was a quote. I'm so blind! Welcome and still want to know colors. LOL
But Gardengirl73 will be the one getting bantams.
Okay so all but that one look really nice. Ironically, I just read on exoticpetvet.com today that if you have one like that and don't want to change humidity for all you can place your egg in a ziploc, poke several holes in the ziploc first for air, add a gauze pad or two wet with boiled or distilled water and close. I think I would put something in also to hold it more open like a tent for circulation. It's like a little greenhouse. I'd only try it if you are really worried as I don't know if ventilation would be adequate. If you have a fan then probably. Wait Brinsea? I would probably try it. If you do let me know how it goes. I don't remember the exact link, but that's the site. Good luck!!!!So I have a question for all you pro hatchers. I am doing my first hatch ever for the Easter hatch along in a brand new Brinsea Octo Advanced EX and my egg weights are driving me crazy. I candled and weighed for the second time since the start and a couple are loosing too much weight. For the first week I ran 40% RH then bumped it to 55% RH for the second week. Do I take it higher for these last few days before lockdown or leave it and bump it at lockdown? Here is a screenshot of my spreadsheet showing the % weight loss for each egg.
Also, how high do you think my RH % should be at lockdown? My home is very dry at about 27% RH.
