The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

So I have a question for all you pro hatchers. I am doing my first hatch ever for the Easter hatch along in a brand new Brinsea Octo Advanced EX and my egg weights are driving me crazy. I candled and weighed for the second time since the start and a couple are loosing too much weight. For the first week I ran 40% RH then bumped it to 55% RH for the second week. Do I take it higher for these last few days before lockdown or leave it and bump it at lockdown? Here is a screenshot of my spreadsheet showing the % weight loss for each egg.

400

Also, how high do you think my RH % should be at lockdown? My home is very dry at about 27% RH.

only one is a significantly light. you cannot control that - it will probably be a late loss but dont give up on it yet. I have hatched some with 20% loss I would not pump up the humidity any further till day 18 - but thats me and I dont use a Brinsea.

I came home from work tonight, and there were 4 babies. I then got to watch number 5 hatch, as did a family friend. Very awesome. I wanted to get one on film so my mom could see one hatch (she missed #5 by a couple minutes) and was watching number 6 (got it on film, I'll trim it an post tomorrow). When I stopped the camera and looked down, #7 had hatched while I was watching #6 hatch! Yay, 7 so far. 3 more to do with this batch. Very good hatch rate. So excited.

I do not weigh mine but watch air cell development. I leave humidity at 40% until lockdown and then raise it to 70%. I incubate in a Brinsea and hatch in a Genesis. Works great that way.

Leave the humidity alone until lockdown.

I am so happy for you!

Ah, well if my luck continues to be horrible, I just might change my mind about color. I'll definately save your name. Ron's word is gospel in my book.

What color birds do you have Wisher? I'd
really love to get blues or splashes, or cuckoos.
Pele I have Black Copper roos over Black Copper, Blue Copper and a Cuckoo hen. Trying to get Golden Cuckoos. I have an order I have to fill this week, but if you're interested I have what I have and can do something after this order.

On what day of incubation were these losses recorded?

We have started our first hatch. We have Japanese Bantams, Ameracunnas, Dutch Bantams. I have always said I will Never have Bantams! The Dutch eggs we just candled and we actually saw the little chicken inside. We look forward to the hatch which could start Easter.
