The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

I've cleaned up the piercing photos and references since people were offended. (If I missed any, please PM me) I really don't believe anyone meant any insult by it - myself included. A lot of people have a lot of piercings and tattoos - it's a personal choice. Neither bother me personally. It was just a bit surprising to see so much on one person - but hey, if it makes him happy, then more power to him.

Now lets get back to talking chickens.

Turns out I didn't need the strawberry container after all. I just candled and had 6 mid term quitters. The Post Office really jumbled these eggs - some had broken air sacs, so it was expected.

27 developed and 21 are now in lockdown.
Candled again on Sunday night - down to 45 in the bator, 3 under broodies. Set my African Goose eggs, but now my old incubator won't keep temp

- must take a lot more energy to keep those suckers warm! Lockdown is on Thursday. Gonna build a bigger brooder out of old windows today so I can shift batches of peeps around.

I just have to share this little story too - I have a 22 yr old son who has Down Syndrome. We got in the car last Friday to head to the 'big city' and he asked where we were going. I told him we were going to the big city to pick up chicks and he nearly peed himself laughing like a little school girl at the prospect of him and his mom going to pick up chicks!

Here are a few pics of the chicks we picked up - GL/SL/BL Standard Polish. We also picked up a few old biddies and a Salmon Faverolle rooster! LOL

And here is a photo of my son visiting a local touring farm where he got to see 'real live dinosaurs' aka Emus and hold an Emu egg :)

Love this picture. I hope both of you enjoy your new chicks.
I was 1 who made a comment on the tat/piercing issue, but not directly to the pic itself. Someone commented about blowing the nose being an issue & the thought was a bit disturbing to imagine. I myself have no piercings, but I do have tats. I also "do" tats for other people. The issue of tats/no tats or piercings/no piercings is a personal 1 for everyone. Some people are strongly opposed, some are all for & some are neutral. There are also those who fall everywhere in between. What we all have to remember is that it's a personal choice for each individual person & everyone is entitled to their own opinion of it. Something that is a "choice" is always open to ridicule simply because it IS a choice. One has to remember, if they make the choice to have tats or piercings there are always those who will have an issue with it somewhere. However, it's your REACTION to the other person's opinion that defines YOU as a person.
Well said, especially the last sentence.

I forgot I had an egg in my pocket, and smashed it. To make it worse, I also had my camera in that pocket.

Luckily it was just one egg, and a small bantam egg even. But is still seems like a lot of egg goo came out of it when I was cleaning up the mess. I've got to stop using my pockets to collect eggs in. It seems like I do this at least every few months. Time to find a cute basket for collecting eggs, that I will probably forget to bring with me to the coop most of the time.

I went to the gym with an egg in my pocket. Thankfully it didn't break. But I've had many pocket scrambles.

I woke up to baby Angora goats!! Meet Martha and George! We're using famous leaders in history as names, our does are Marie and Antoinette and the buck is Napoleon. Holy hell, they're adorable!
Oh my, they are too cute for words. I didn't know Angora was from goats, thought it was from sheep.

Wow, I'm so very sorry for your loss. A mother should never have to lose a child.

I love them! I just want to hug them!
I do that all the time. In the winter it is always in my hoodie pocket. Then stick my hand in there. Yuck. I thought same thing and got a basket and never use it but I am going to hang it by front door so I won't forget it.
Lol, I think it's all the hoodie's fault. If their pockets weren't always right there for the eggs this wouldn't happen. I think I need a set of baskets, one by the door, one in the coop, etc.

From my candling today, I won't be surprised if I have chicks hatching on Thursday. My temps were running a tad bit high, and the eggs are awfully dark already. (usually still have light at the tip of the egg) We'll see.
