Anyone? I woke to only 50% humidity and 96 degrees. Do I open and adjust or leave closed until hatch day on Saturday?

Blimey, that was quite the thon! The Quote-a-thon begins! I've been so busy I have just updated about the eggs/chicks and not really replied to everyone else.
So envious of you with chicks already. I'm off for a couple of days, so I have someone coming to check in on everyone. I've written her a list of things to do. On it is: If you hear cheeping coming from the incubators, cheep back!"

Good luck both of you!!
Recipe please!
Ok, I will try to get the recipe from her. They do look cute! Maybe give us something to do to keep our hands of the bators! LOL
10 chicks now...![]()
7rirs and 3buff silkies...
Only 2 more eggs of the 12 left in the bator has pips, one rir and one white silkie. If I could just get a white and blue silkie to hatch I would be content with what has hatched already.
There is 2 rir and 10silkies left in the bator!
Wish us luck and prayers!
Our first chick to hatch is an hrir and so supper friendly, he already steps onto our hands and will come running if he sees your finger stuck out he loves to get water off your finger. All 10 are now in the brooder, I waited until several hatched but want them in the brooder instead of bator overnight. I know everyone says its ok for them to stay in but when 6 chicks are playing soccer with the eggs and knocking an already pipped egg upside down with pip into the ground I just couldn't handle it for worry.
I feel slightly like I have a newborn in the house, my back hurts from being hunched over watching eggs hatch and worrying about this and that with the eggs/chicks.
Will get some pictures maybe tomorrow evening![]()
Congrats & good luck with the rest! Yes, pics please.
I have a pip or two..one Blue Orp out..
woo hooo!! The fun has started..

Had my first assist today. She pipped 2 days ago, but didn't manage to flake off the piece of shell. She had expended a lot of energy trying and this morning I flicked off that small piece of shell and cleared the nasty tan membrane away from her airway. When I came home from work, she hadn't really made any progress and the membranes were starting to get rather dry so I flicked off more pieces of shell and found that the membrane veins had receeded completely, but she was so tired. I opened a small hole and she stuck out a wing. I wet the membrane and opened up the hole a little more and out came her head. At that point, I set her down and let her do the rest in the bater (which took only a couple seconds). I picked her up to check navel, etc and was glad I did. She'd been in there so long she was about to have pasty butt and there was a big poo inside the shell. I wiped her clean and put her back in to dry off. She was alone in there so she was cheaping loud enough I could hear her in the other room. Once she was mostly dry, I stuck her in the nice warm brooder where she promptly went to the bottom of the sleeping chick pile and was happy as a clam. She's a loud little ball of fluff, but appears to be doing great. I am very very happy I read the entire assist thread before starting my hatch!Good job! Pictures?![]()

Adorable!!
Looking promising...............7 out now and still many more starting to "break out
Was so worried that eggs had gotten too chilled and expected only couple to make it..
in the past I never start this early...far too cold in Ontario..Canada...I am now hoping for at
least a 40% hatch..( 16 chicks)....![]()

Very cute! Nice early bird.
I had no idea about this hatch a long, but by coincidence just happened to set some eggs in the incubator--and when I checked dates, they will be Easter babies.
We set 17 eggs. They are all barnyard mixes. Our incubator is homemade, and we moved it to a better location this year (our basement, instead of the garage) and wanted to test it to make sure it's working properly before we order those expensive Marans eggs I've been drooling over.
As far as hatch rate--if I get as much as 50%, I'll be thrilled. After all, first hatch in a homemade bator in a new location...![]()
What fun!
Welcome!!
well had to cull my early hatcher, realized too late he had membrane stuck to half his face think a lack of Oxygen hurt his brainoh well still have two serama eggs in lock down, gosh those suckers are hard to hatch!
Aww... sorry.Good luck with the other 2.![]()
Checked on the little ones this am. 6 external pips so far no fuzzy heads yet but soon very soon!Just a waiting game now.![]()
OK, I'm going to give one big "GOOD LUCK" to all those who have locked down & have pips & hatching... I started to quote them all, but the quote-a-thon was just getting huge. Good Luck Everybody!! & post more pictures, just saying! Love love the pictures.![]()

I would wait to be sure the temp isn't going to raise, and then I'd raise it a bit at a time.Anyone? I woke to only 50% humidity and 96 degrees. Do I open and adjust or leave closed until hatch day on Saturday?
The hard part is that I have a homemade incubator, so I have to open the lid to adjust the temperature...! I'm stuck between a rock and a hard spot...Leave it closed. Add water through a straw and a medicine syringe through one of the vent holes. Opening the lid will also lower your temperature, which you need to increase.
And the winner of the Short Story Contest is..............
