Oh my goodness!!

My son (he's 14) is sitting here looking at the new chicks (so far all 4 of my easter egger/brahma cross chicks have hatched, and 3 of the 4 barred rock/brahma cross chicks. waiting on 1 more!). Anyways, he's sitting here looking at the chicks and says... well "Easter Egger Brahma Cross" and "Barred Rock Brahma Cross" are just too long of names! We need to combind their name.

Then he says... "Oh! These ones are "Barrock Obrahma's"!"

LOL!!!

Too funny!

Went to bed last night and my temp was good and humidity was 60%, some how throughout the night the humidity dropped into the 30's and I have been trying very hard to be HANDS OFF with this silkie chick that has been trying to get out for over 24hours now. Well, it didn't hatch over night and I told myself if it isn't hatched by the time I get back from dropping my son off at school and geting some easter things for him then I'm going in to see what's wrong. I could tell it was in distress before especially when I seen the membrane turning brown and the chick peeping...Well I came back and checked and the chick has pipped on the right side but had gotten stuck on the very bottom :( and is completely STUCK inside the egg. There is no chipping away, if I do then I will more than likely hurt the chick. I wetted a paper towel with warm water, wrapped it around the egg besides where the beak was so it could breath and have added more water to hopefully up the humidity. I'm hoping I can get it humid enough to loosen up the chick enough to break him/her free without hurting it. This is a little white silkie and I feel so bad it is chirping so loud and I know has to be uncomfortable in there!! You wouldn't have ever known the situation until you literally picked up the egg and seen it's little beak sticking out at the bottom screaming away.

Lost our 1st egg on Wednesday morning when I was getting ready to put everyone into lockdown. One of the Japanese bantams had already pipped, but because the turner was still on it rolled it upside down and it drowned (pipped in the middle). We were gone that evening until last night (son touring colleges) and came home to 4 Japanese bantams hatched and 1 Icelandic hatched. This morning we are up to 9 Japanese bantams hatched, 5 Icelandics, 2 Spitzhauben crosses, 1 GLP with many other pips. Set on March 9, but the Japanese bantams and Icelandics and Polish like to hatch a little early.

I hate this part of worrying about getting some of them out of there and hoping the eggs are okay from all the knocking about that they are getting.

The Japanese bantams are for my DD to show for 4h, so she is in charge of getting that brooder together.
Just wondering what color Japanese Bantams your hatching?

She has 3 different colors of Japanese bantams hatching - mottled, black-tailed white and black-tailed buff. They are shipped eggs, too. All 18 of them started to develop, 2 quit early and then the one that pipped early in the turner. She is so excited!

That was my thought when i saw it . Just too cute. Okay you guys are all hatching and i think I didn't write things down right and will be in trouble when i get home from work. (1) I was too lazy last night to luck down my eggs (dumb) right. I do have a good excuse though, we had a stupid meeting at 6:15 am and that put me getting up at 3:45 am due to feeding. Just way too early. (2) The old man and me were finishing up a grow out pen, had dinner and did chores, by that time it was late, i started to do it but the old man looked at me and said REALLY, we have to get up early and you are not nice in the morning,so stop the maddness.

Three chicks hatched! My incubator is chirping like crazy...soooo exciting! I have two new EE's from brown eggs, one looks like its a naked neck, and a light coloured am out of a blue egg. A few more have pipped too so I'm going to be glued to the bator today!

Ok... I'm getting a tad nervous...has everyone who set at noon on the 9th got pips and or rocking? Cuz right now I don't have either yet...uuuggghhh...the wait is soooo hard! My grandson arrives this afternoon and I so want this hatch to be successful...

When I left for classes this morning, I had nothing as well... Here's to patience and hope!
