Yep, only it's all 3 of my little ones. Two RIR and a BA/RIR that was the first to fully hatch.Does anyone else have chicks that seem overly infatuated with you? If I stand over the brooder and talk to the chicks the first rir that hatched will chirp at me and run quickly to where I am and jump, jump, jump to try and get to me! Once I pick him up he's completely content to sit with me or be on me while I walk around the house, I find it odd but so adorable. My little while silkie who I helped out of the egg loves to sit on me as well, he will click its little beak. I had parrots/birds that did the same thing when on me sleeping, I always thought it was a sign of contentment and this little baby will close his eyes in my hands and click his beak.love my babies.![]()
I hope everyone is having a wonderful hatch I'm going to try and catch up on what I missed tomorrow morning at work.
Aww that is just the cutest pic....HAPPY EASTER FRIENDS!

I set 18 eggs and had none hatch. When I put the eggs into the "hatcher" incubator that I just hatched chicks out of 2 weeks prior, the temp control was moved and we had a temp spike. I thought that it could only have been a short time but apparently it was long enough. I opened the eggs and no survivors. Sad day for us. My kids were really hoping for some peeping today.

I LOVE THAT CHICK!!I only had three hatch.. but they are very cute!! NONE of my shipped eggs hatched.. I did all the tests this morning and did the final Pipping for them.... three that were in lockdown had pipped internally, but never progressed after that. I wish I had read about the "saddle air sac" BEFORE today... i may have been able to save them. Little sad.. but it was my first time and now I know. Shipped eggs with saddled air sacs need more attention than what I gave them.
here are my three babies! they are silkie showgirl, silkie/cochin roo mix.... one of them is particularly adorable with her little yellow muff. After reading everything again.. i don't think I had my humidity high enough. Two of these little guys had sticky chick.. i am still trying to was off the cement on their backs!
love thier toes!!
I only get a tad stink if I hatch for more than 3 days straight, you should smell first, and candle tap and check for internal pips.... https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatchingHappy Easter! Hope ya'll have a blessed day!
We still only have 2 chicks and still have 4 eggs in the incubator. Is a bad odor normal with hatching? This is the first hatch we've been successful with. Also, how long should we wait before re-candling or doing the float test? We're now on day 22 and I know that's not too bad, but the others hatched Friday.
Happy Easter Everyone!
For those of you that set on time and have chicks hatching late, be sure to increase your temperature some next time you hatch.
We are working on the contests, please be patient as we have a lot of contests ending. We will announce winners as soon as we can.
Can you post pics of the pips? any more progress? when was first pip noticed?I have 10/28 duck eggs externally pipped this morning. About 4 of them have double pips - does that mean they are soon to zip? Lots of peeping happening. I think they are waiting for the chicken eggs to catch up (I set those 2 days late).
if you see its beak and the fluid/blood stopped it should rest for some time now, please scroll down in the article on assisting malposition's https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatchingHappy Easter Everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day with family, friends, pets and loved ones!!
I do have a question for anyone that might be on who can help. I have a chick hatching from a smaller round shaped egg who's air cell was on the side. Anyway I read about how to place it ect so it could hatch and I did as I read but now it is hatching on the opposite side (not where the air cell is) and there is a few spots of blood where it has pipped
it is still poking its beak under the membrane but there are some blood spots inside the membrane.... So my question since it is still alive and working on itself do I leave it alone and at what point do I assist and how?!!??
Thanks so much in advance!! I would really like to have this little one make itmy fingers are crossed!!!
Have a great day!!
Quote: I would read the article, candle tap and listen for chirps and look for internal pipshttps://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching
when did she hatch? she is cute! see above reply if its been a day since this one hatched
AWESOME!! great work with her!I took my "Turtle" out of his coffee cup this morning for a few drinks and a walk. Then pit him in the brooder to see if he will eat. He is still a bit unstable on his legs, but not falling down near as much. In fact, I had a little difficulty identifying him from the rest after dealing with the incubator chick.
The wellie is doing better. I cleaned the goo stuck to her back & gave her a couple drinks of vitamin water. She is back in the incubator so she can fluff up & also because there is still a reddish bulge on her bottom that I didn't want the others to pick at. The wellie is the chick that pipped the wrong end then became shrink wrapped in the membrane. I helped her out at 5 am.
YOU GO GIRL!!! AWESOMENESS!!! YAY!! Good for you!!All done with my Easter hatch!!!
31 set..31 hatched..I need sleep

Quote: YAY AWESOME well done!!!
update?Still absolutely NOTHING here.So depressed. I wish I knew what went wrong! I know they were alive at lockdown! I saw several of them moving, they looked pretty good on development!
Planning on candling and listening to all the eggs tonight as soon as it gets dark enough to candle. Then will decide if we can assist any live ones.![]()

Quote: They are LOVELY white chicks love the spot on the head!! sill that mean splash I hope!
i am still at one chick- one egg is peeping and has pipped though so i am hopeful for a second chick... really hopeful because the first chick is a crybaby by itself!![]()
wait and wait some more, a lot of times they can get out on their own, here is some reading material... there is a section on malpositions, HOWEVER ducks are dif than chickens, they take 2x longer to absorb, could be 48+ hrs after pip https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching
Quote: Come on Chicks!!!
I cant tell 100% so is this its vent or its navel?
YAY I cant wait for my broody to hatch!! so is so pretty laying there so flat and fluffy too! she looks like a big heart shaped chicken! As of right now I have 19 new chick babies out of 36! They started to hatch yesterday at 5:30pm, and there are eggs pipped that will probably hatch too. Looks like I'm going to have a much better hatch than my first one earlier this month!Oh, and broody's out there sitting on 6 eggs that are due to hatch tomm.! Theresa/Sunnydale Farm
yes wonkey air cells can hatch, but you may have to watch as it may need assistance sometimes they cannot position correctly https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatchingre-candled the last 4 in the bator and removed one that was an early quitter. I was concerned about it when placing it, but being a newbie I stuck it in anyways. 2 of the 3 are so full and darker eggs its almost impossible to see much, but it looked like something was moving in it as I rolled the egg to candle. The last egg has a funky air cell I didn't notice before. Instead of just going around the top portion it sort of runs down the side of the egg as well. Is this normal? Any hope for it?
WHAT CONTEST? WHICH ONE? They will be listed as winners are finalized, please see first page of this thread for more info on winners. Bare with us, Its a holiday too, Happy EASTER!!Does anyone know when we find out who the winner is for this contest?![]()
AWESOME!!I have 17 chicks from 30 set.
And GUESS WHAT?! It WAS paddle leg! All but one of the chicks have fully recovered! I'm thrilled. I believe the last ne will recover too, have her under the Ecoglow now
Awesome pic! Is that in your bator? How did they get all fluffy and attentive? And how did you manage to get such a great photo! Very cool.
Still hatching here in Sunny Kansas where the grass is getting GREENER by the second!
Attached is a peak of some of the lovely Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas. I am so excited. I just love this stock I purchased as eggs from Peachick. The eggs as you can see, well a bit diluted in color in photo, are a beautiful Robin colored blue. The other stock are Olive eggers/Rainbow type layers.
Will post another photo soon
HAPPY EASTER!!!!!
