Any guesses on this mutt with neon green ears and hot pink comb. Hatchery bird 20 wks old
.
Are you talking about the beautiful Barred Rock Pullet?

Do not let her hear you call her a Hatchery mutt!

NONE of my eggs hatched! I got a new Farm Inovators circulating air 'bator, with automatic egg turner. I let DH adjust the thermometer- I think he measured it against a couple thermometers we had- one for the kids and also a digital meat thermometer. Too hot in there I think.

Plus, humidity very, very hard to keep constant. I think next time I need a decent thermometer, plus maybe dry incubate and only add water when it's time for lock down. I don't know. Very disappointed.

If anyone has used these FI incubators and has any advice please let me know.

On a more positive note, the weekend before Easter weekend I hatched 6 out of 6 eggs in my mini-Brinsea (which doesn't count for the hatch-a-long, of course). They're split black/lavendar Ameraucanas. Here are some photos:

Above are dad and mom- Malcolm and Chloe, respectively. Not perfect birds but the best I can do for now.

Perhaps I would do well to save up for one of the 24-egg Brinseas. They are so expensive, but maybe it is worth it in the long run.

It gets tough to figure out what the Hatcheries mix them with. This one still has yellow legs and it looks like a straight comb, so not Domonique. Hatcheries like to mix in Leghorns so there may be some of that too especially if it flies. There is also the possibility of there being some Penedesenca in her.

The color and type of egg will really help with figuring out what is mixed in with that one....

Congrats to Harley. That photo is too funny. How in the world did you catch that photo? Please don't tell us she does this on a regular basis, and you decided to get the camera out one day.

I can hear baby bird cheeping above my head right now...

I do believe my annual "ceiling babies" have arrived... :)

Silly little birds return to the same hole around the dryer output and have babies above the dining room... I do enjoy the baby bird cheeping once a year. One of these days I may repair the hole, but it isn't really hurting anything, and why deny them a safe place to raise their little fluffies?

My sweet Eleanor decided she wasn't broody after all... Glad I waited to make sure she really meant it.

Any guesses as to why her medium brown eggs are now getting almost white? ... Each one is lighter than the next and pointier at the top.. it is VERY strange...

The total chicks hatched for the Easter Hatch-a-long was 2,649

Congratulations ChooksChick!

You are the winner of the Guess How Many Will Hatch Contest!
with a guess of 2,691

OMG I love this Photo WTG Hurley

Can i caption this one as" You Smell like another Hen"?

Or I know you have food hidden in here

That's funny because last week I was throwing tiny bits of cheese (AKA chicken crack) for the girls & one piece landed on the back of my black orpington just above her tail. She spun around in circles trying to get it. Oh, how I wish I had a video of that!
