I had to jump to the end. Congrats everyone on their hatches, and pips, and zips! This is what it's all about, right??? I was sad that none of my Call eggs pipped, but 1, to even give me a chance at getting them out...BUT my one little baby is sooo cute, and I'm grateful to have her. Meet Piper!!

Did you have to assist? I have one Serama trying to hatch out of all those wonky air cell eggs. 12 call eggs are still alive, but after what you went through, I'm trying to not get excited about them.

Great info.
I'm thinking that if a chick is not ready to eat then it won't have an appetite yet. I usually want baby everythings to eat as soon as possible! I want to know that they are getting nourished.

Just a note - if you hatch a lot, Gro-Gel in the big pack (2k doses) is much less expensive. The mix rate is a half tsp to 2 oz of water. So long as you keep the powder dry & cool it keeps very well. I used to get it through Randall Burkey, but I see they don't have it now. This company has it for even less, but I've never dealt with them (and I'm not out yet!) so don't know anything about them:

I second 'put it in the hatcher'. Don't know how much is due to what, but I've never lost a fully developed normal chick after hatch. Every hatch gets a two ounce cup so they can have all they want.

I LOVE SEEING EVERYONES HATCHES!!! Marshie has 10 days left on her hatch! im crazy excited! this week we are getting ready to put up the broody quarantine inside the coop, so everyone can see the chicks.

Had to help one that was getting weak and had pipped early yesterday, but it's doing great and finished off its hatch independently. Got one about to pop out, making 4. Two more pips. I'm getting worried about the first 12 I put in the bator. I don't think it's the bator, all but one of the chicks and pips are from that second 12 I put in the bator.

Final tally on my Easter hatch:

Set: 34 Iowa Blues (collected during freezing weather), 12 Cream Legbars (of 14 shipped, smashed eggs)
Hatched: 19 Iowa Blues, 4 Cream Legbars (2 girls, 2 boys)

For the stress these eggs went through, I'm happy with what I got!
