Side effect of having goats = cheese. My cheese "cave" is just a modified wine fridge, but it gets the job done.
I would like more information on this modified wine fridge cheese cave, please.

Good Morning!

The participant list is up to date through post 1167. If I missed you, wave in this thread.

Im eggcited to see the pics when it hatches.

Hmm I've been thinking of adding another breed to my Easter Hatch a Long...anyone have any Welsummer eggs they'll be selling around that time on the east coast or central? Not show quality but nice backyard flock quality.

Ive got my brandnew bator set up and ready to go.

Holding temps like a champ for 24 hrs now. Its a Farm Innovators Circulated Air with Turner. Much more set and forget than my homemade bator from last year.
Check with @faykokoWV - she's a welsummer breeder in West VA.

Looks like I need a second bator.
Yep, it's mandatory. I have 2. See, now you have to keep up with the Jones'.

Mm cheese

That's what I was thinking...........
I know! I'd be in serious calorie trouble if I made cheese. I've only made simple cheese = chevre.

Exciting! I am only a week into my first hatch...I should have a week to clean the bator and plan my second and join the hatch a long :)

Welcome!

Hmm! my first ever chicks are arriving April 15. My coop is not finished yet.. I own no incubator at this time... Yet I think I want to do this... Hmmmm.
Chicken Math hitting you early on! Welcome! I started 5 years ago with 7 chickens and I'm pushing 50-ish at the moment. (I'm not seriously counting them) And the 25 meaties I have don't count either, cuz they won't be here long.

Of course you are! I knew you would be!

Good Morning everyone.

Its snowing again today but temps seem ok. I feel like this 3ft of snow will never melt lol. Ill be heading outside soon to tend to the birds and check for some eggs

Coffee first though.
Rain here, thankfully no snow. And coffee brewing.

If anyone out here in the Easter Hatch along has or knows of someone that has good quality large fowl Silver Laced Cochin(not hatchery) Please PM. Id love to hatch some for this hatch along.
I don't know of anyone personally, but check the BST section here on BYC.

So true!

Hey Y'all I have not been posting on here just stalking for the last few days. I have been working on plans for a " cabinet style" incubator/Hatcher for any who are feeling a little crafty and wanting an additional place to put all those eggs. It will hold two eggs turners (for a total of 82 standard chicken eggs)d as putting an egg turner to turn two trays at once can be a little difficult for even the handiest of persons. I will include in it, a list of materials, sizes, and a basic set of instructions. These plans include working with electricity to wire it up. If you do not feel comfortable working with such I hope you know someone who is. Anyone interested?

cleaned and sanitized the 'bator this morning. It's in the basement under the plant light since it's below freezing outside so any little sun we will have today won't do me any good getting this thing dried out.

Off to the store shortly to pick up a couple new thermometers to replace the flat one that came with my 'bator that does not appear to be very accurate (plus the cardboard part got a little bit ookey during last year's last hatch and I can't get it clean enough to satisfy me that I won't contaminate). From the info I've read on here, I will be picking up a few kinds, at least one digital and calibrating all of them prior to starting the system up again.

Hoping to reset this evening or tomorrow morning so they hatch in time to reset for the Easter Hatch-a-long (have an order to fill to provide chicks for Hatch-a-long set weekend for a photographer friend of mine so I offered to hatch a bunch for myself early and let her photograph them). Setting Amerauanas, Belgian Mille Fleur and backyard crosses (mostly cochin and polish genes with some frizzle thrown in for good measure) - all bantam. Gonna leave the turner out so I can stuff it full since as of yesterday evening there were 65 waiting to go in. This will be my first time hand turning, so I'll be setting my cell phone to alert me to turn them so I don't forget. Depending on how many clears we have at day 10, I may put the turner in at that point if they'll all fit. This cold has been doing a number on the fertility of my flock.
