Final Count for me was 2 out of 7 with only one surviving (so far) Not sure what happened but they both had splayed legs
Hopeing this one makes it.

What is the yellow and black spotted one? And could you separate the greens and give each some chicks?
Oh my goodness Nomibear! I haven't had many broody hens, just a couple through the years. I wonder what caused them to do this! I hope these babies pull through.
That yellow one looks pretty bad. Good luck on this. :/
I am so happy!!
When we started this HAL my dogs Killed my RIR!
And now I can say that the eggs HRIR eggs I bought and had shipped are ALL PIPPED!! all 11 viable day 20 is today!
Initially 2 I had to chuck as they were cracked bottoms and rollers, and one I think was infertile or had internal damage from shipping, it too had a big moving air cell and never did anything so I cant call infertile because I didnt breakout to analyse.
I will have HRIR chicks tomorrow and maybe some late tonight if I am lucky!! YAY go chickies!!
Oh I pray I get all 11 and no issues!! If it pips its got great chance!

I am so thrilled to have peeked and seen every egg EVERY EGG and three of my own CCL in lockdown have pippers!!
First time that I peered in a bator and seen that every single egg had a pip! first time EVER! sweetness.... now watch none will hatch :/:/
I take that back! I just checked again and in the few minutes since I posted, the silkie egg has a pip!!e About durn time!
For the record again, I'm waiting on 3 chicken eggs here, since 0/10 of my quail hatched and I was a dunce and set the 3 mixed duck eggs too late and they aren't due til Sunday. These eggs: one is from a buff silkie who's been running with a white silkie roo, red silkie roo, and black showgirl roo (please be a sg, please be a sg). One is from a LF EE, daddy unknown but probably either silkie or buff brahma, and the other is a bantam egg probably from a Leghorn, daddy unknown but same probability. Should be fun babies if they hatch.

Well so far we have two Buff Orpingtons out and one pipped of three eggs. and two Buff Plymouth Rocks. Hoping a few more pop out during the night. Hoping that more of them survived the 68 degree low the other night....
C'mon broody, hatch those babies! It is day 21 for my broody, she's still sitting tight and I haven't seen or heard any chicks. Rough hatch with the incubators, only 6 chicks. One died in my hands. I'll wait until broody Momma gets off her nest before giving any numbers.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Thanks for the guesses (& info); will fill in more details:
The marks, as seen about 8 hours after hatching, were only on the fleshy parts of the toes, (in between the joints) almost every section, brighter then than in the pic taken two hours(?) later and *only* the bottom surface. Almost as if the underside of her feet were scraped on something. The left foot had a very small spot at the center of the footpad, but there was none on the right footpad at all. The marks along the toes have paled considerably in these pics, and the blood has mostly migrated to the footpad. None of these were, or are, visibly ulcerated; the epidermal layer is intact and looks fine - without magnification anyway.. I'm anxious for the zippers to get out so I can look at their feet!
As a side note, she behaves completely normally and does not seem to be in discomfort.
Sorry your hatch was disappointing.Disappointing hatch from my broody girls.... Ended up with two... One Amerucana and one sizzle.
Hope you see something soon.
Oh wow, the parents aren't taking care of it?They can heal from severe injuries. If you can, get some Vetericyn gel wound spray - it's amazing stuff. When I have multiple broodies, I separate them. I too have had hens fight over babies or fight over nestboxes and have lost chicks to them. I now separate them, and don't have any issues anymore. It's tough sometimes when you have multiple broodies at once.I set 10 eggs under a first time Buff Leghorn broody. A week before hatch a 2nd Buff Leghorn joined her on the same nest, and they shared the eggs. 1st chick hatched Thursday.
Nothing Friday or Saturday.
Easter Sunday I could see 5!
Today I checked and Found 9!!!
One problem...
The moms were not sharing. I found this baby on the ground with two other chicks and one of the moms.
I put the other two babies back into the nest and tried to clean up the injured chick. Applied Rooster Booster. I assumed a predator had caused a scene, and injured the chick. When I went to return the chick one of the moms attacked it. I pulled it out and planned to add it to the brooder I have going for some of my Incubated chicks. Before I could turn around the two moms had started fighting over another chick! Right before my eyes they scalped this one too!
At this point I took them all away! Added the healthy ones to my brooder, and the two injured ones in a secure separated container.
Here are a couple of the happy chicks.
long story short. I gave her 10 eggs for the HAL. By day 21 she has hatched out 9 of the eggs. I will let you know if the last egg hatches.
Precious pictures! And oh my, how cute is that cockatoo!
Here is the little HAL cockatoo, (squawkatoo).
And my only two HAL chicken chicks.
This is the Serama from a shipped egg with a saddle air cell.
And this is the Frizzle X Ameracauna. I think this is the softest chick ever! And he/she has small feathers down the legs...
I listed three African grey eggs for the HAL. One is clear, but the other two must be close to hatching. Can't candle very well with the mom sitting on them. The weather plays a part with them. I thought they should have hatched between Saturday and today.. Any day now.....
One of the two HAL Silver pheasants under a broody has draw down today. These guys are a little late also, but again, maybe because of our crazy weather swings.
Thank you! I have to take two dogs to the vets tomorrow. Cockatoo has to go with me all day so he doesn't miss his feedings.....This continues for about three months.

No, it will not correct itself. It will get worse and the chick will not be able to eat properly and it will die. It needs vitamin E in it immediately. See here:this Legbar has a curved to the right neck. Will this correct it self. This chick hatched Sunday![]()
It looks like the belly is pushing the legs out. I would give this chick some time and try taping the legs together. (if it does not cause the chick pain) With the legs brought into correct position, it may bring the feet where they need to be. Hobbled chicks can drown easily as well, so be watchful in the brooder. So i think this is my last chick to hatch, there are three more questionable ones but anyways, he was an exceptionally sticky chick. He is an exchequer leghorn and he needed full assistance, and this morning when i went to check on how he was doing he was literally glued to the bottom of the incubator. I managed to get him off and out of the remainder of the shell, and i started washing him off and i noticed his legs are possibly on backwards? I am not sure, maybe they are just misshaped from being in the egg so much longer. My question: will i be able to fix this or should I cull him now? I would feel terrible putting him through the stress of scrubbing the rest of the goo off him, splinting his legs, and trying to get him to eat and drink only to have him be stuck with backwards feet for his whole life. and I think if that is the case it will save him a lot of cruelty to just put him down now before he has had to go through that. but if it is just something that i can splint and he will do well i would hate to cull him for no reason.

So here is some of my research...
Please note that these eggs all came to me in Southern California. They were then repacked in size appropriate foam, and placed in three layers USPS Regional Flat Box B. The boxes were padded externally and then shipped in luggage to Asia - 7500 miles
I have 1000s of eggs with data but this is my most recent hatch.I need more data on eggs that are not effected by the overseas flight to be most useful to the research paper
I will be setting up a new thread with a form so that hopefully I can get good help from BYCers. To participate in the final research (apart from the questions I earlier asked to be PMd, I will need a control group local egg hatch of > 50% of the shipped eggs. You will have the option of giving your name or user name. If you supply me with your name I will add you as a co-author. The goal is to get it published in a peer reviewed scientific journal.

ANYONE JUST HATCH A ROLLER? END TO END ROLLING? did you document it with images/video?I have, in the thousands of shipped eggs I have hatched, never hatch an egg with a rolling aircell.
people tell me it can happen
If you are lucky enough to do so and have video or even photos of the aircell, please share with me
apart from in my incubator, its rare to have so many shipped eggs hatching at the same time
your data could help hundreds in the future
muy amable
If not I wont believe it, but I really want to believe it TRUST ME!![]()
I documented with images and video with my HRIR, BUT I had to toss mine after a few days, cracks formed on bottom and I had liquid escaping.
I am still with oz to have YET hatch a complete roller.....
Adding who tossed theirs? what day and did it have growth?
PLEASE PLEASE GET US YOUR INFORMATION!!! as detailed and ACCURATE as possible, REMEMBER to add as much info, settle time, turning schedule, packaging anything that has to do with your hatch rates good or bad!! WE WANT IT ALL!! PLEASEEEEEE you all hold a wealth of info for shipped and local eggs!I have data on thousands of shipped eggs that I have attempted to hatch but I am looking for a larger pool of variables for a research paper on shipped eggs hatchability.
Could anybody who had shipped eggs for the hatch-a-along please PM me with:
Set number
Number viable after 1st candling
Hatch number
How many you assisted
how many pipped but did not hatch
when did you start turning
how often did you turn
I will draw from a hat the name of one person who answers the questions for me and he/she will win a CocoBeachPoultry tshirt

Huzzah! If you get a clean necked sg all the babies will be sgs!
Congratulations cythhia!
