The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Ok, I think I have a final count. Turtlefat set 20 eggs, but all of them ended up being infertile. Her rooster wasn't getting the job done, so that is 0/20.

I set 21 eggs. Of those, 5 were infertile. 2 quit early. 14 went into lock down, though 3 were pretty questionable. All in all, 5 chicks hatched. So I'm 5/20. Not that great, but it was my first time and I learned a ton!

On the brightest side of all, I have 5 cute little chicks who are happy and healthy. Rooster is a Welsummer, hens were a light bramha, black sex-link, and an easter egger. All of the chicks have chipmunk coloring! Ha!

Final Count for me and the singing incubator from hell: 3 chicks (out of 10 set)

Tiny little bantams. One hatched on it's own on Sunday, and I helped the other two out (a lot) they are pets though, and look good so lets hope they are really well and the bator was the issue!

AMAZING WOWOWOWOWOWWWWW

Well I thought I was done since my chicks were all due to hatch Saturday, so I was doing a quick candle and it turns out I still have about 10 alive wiggling about, I hope we have a few days to post final numbers because I think I have some late bloomers.
Calibrate your thermos are running low

Quote: recalibrate temps are too low

Official count: 3 Am-EE hatched

All others were clears.

50 more set and checked and cooking along-- rooster is back in action. WHoot.

The 19 Easter babies

1 Lavender or Blue Ameraucana (anyone know what color for sure?)

one of the 9 Speckled Sussex chicks...they are feisty babies- from hatching early to the way they boss everyone else around...so comical!

The 1 Silver Birchen Maran that hatched...

hard to see...

1 of the 2 squawky Wheaten Marans...too cute!

and there are 2 Black Copper Marans, and 4 of my BYM chicks in there too.
A fun multi- colored bunch.

So i think this is my last chick to hatch, there are three more questionable ones but anyways, he was an exceptionally sticky chick. He is an exchequer leghorn and he needed full assistance, and this morning when i went to check on how he was doing he was literally glued to the bottom of the incubator. I managed to get him off and out of the remainder of the shell, and i started washing him off and i noticed his legs are possibly on backwards? I am not sure, maybe they are just misshaped from being in the egg so much longer. My question: will i be able to fix this or should I cull him now? I would feel terrible putting him through the stress of scrubbing the rest of the goo off him, splinting his legs, and trying to get him to eat and drink only to have him be stuck with backwards feet for his whole life. and I think if that is the case it will save him a lot of cruelty to just put him down now before he has had to go through that. but if it is just something that i can splint and he will do well i would hate to cull him for no reason.

I am so happy!!

When we started this HAL my dogs Killed my RIR!

And now I can say that the eggs HRIR eggs I bought and had shipped are ALL PIPPED!! all 11 viable day 20 is today!
Initially 2 I had to chuck as they were cracked bottoms and rollers, and one I think was infertile or had internal damage from shipping, it too had a big moving air cell and never did anything so I cant call infertile because I didnt breakout to analyse.

I will have HRIR chicks tomorrow and maybe some late tonight if I am lucky!! YAY go chickies!!

Oh I pray I get all 11 and no issues!! If it pips its got great chance!
