The silly thing had only halfway unzipped so I took a few small pieces off and it popped out in my hand. I candled all the other eggs and found that one had stopped moving so I opened it to find the baby had indeed passed but was malpositioned with it's head by it's vent. It also only had half formed toes on both feet with only 1 full toe on each foot. But the baby that is out is perfect. 4 others have external pips now!
@ronott1 @Sally Sunshine @Arielle

aww good! It's probably running around like crazy now. Sorry about the other one, I have seen it a few times.

Well I thought she did..I found this. It doesn't say anything about the temps though, and I know that high temps in the beginning can be a problem.
It is usually genetic when stuff does not form.

There is one wormer--I think it is the medicine in Wazine--that can cause birth defects. It is a good idea to wait two weeks after treating them with a wormer before collecting eggs.

Thanks ron, I was so hunting for the post that showed that..found one finally. I did not know about the Wazine! That's way good to know.

It's actually sleeping on two of the other eggs.

If you could post the link I'd like to read it. And my temps were never high for these guys just low.

I still have eggs popping that were due 4/21...so I will get the final count as soon as they are done. Had 3 more pop this morning but all 3 needed assistance. They are starting to get sticky & shrink wrapped.

Well, I just "grafted" the 3 hatchings from the incubator to Sparkle in her nest and removed the unhatched eggs from beneath her. She had gotten up from the nest to eat and drink - which she doesn't normally do if eggs are close to hatching. Although she got back in and dutifully tucked those eggs back under her, I carried one chick to the nest, set it inside, palmed one egg, and waited, watching.

Sparkle inspected the chick, then tucked it under her, cooing. I reached in and removed the rest of the eggs, then quickly put the other two chicks into the nest.

Sparkle didn't even check those two before she tucked them beneath her fluff and settled down.

The eggs went into the incubator just in case....

I put a Chinese tea cup (small, no handle) with water into the nest box up against one side, nestled into the shavings for stability, and moved a dish of feed close to the little family's nest box.

It's all under the TV table so I can keep a close eye on everything.

I haven't been out to the coop to check on the other broody hens incubating and/or raising the other Easter HAL eggs and chicks. Well, I have been out there to do the chores, but I didn't bother the broodies. Yet.

Not really sure we're "done" with the HAL at this point. I will report numbers later.

Kinda too busy watching Sparkle right now. :love
