The EEs from hatcheries are not the same as non standard AMs. Many of them are from an import of Quechas. They were imported several times in the last Century.

Some call them improved Quechas.

Since you know so much about breeding and genetics and such, I have a question. The chicks that were born looking like a barred rock (some with yellow head spots, some without), are those specific ones sexlink? Even though a bunch of the chicks hatched out looking like chipmunks, and some yellow?

I am not sure where we are to post results ..I still have a chick in a shell..it has been a really unusual hatch this year..

1 still left to hatch.
Very bad hatch this year..but I have cute cute chicks.

FOR @Nomibear OR ANYONE ELSE WHO CAN ANSWER!
I saw Nomibear's broody attacked mama hen's chicks.....I have had this happen before as well with my BAs.....another broody came up to steal the chicks, so the mom actually pecked the chicks to kill them so the other birds couldn't get them.......I also had the entire shell pecked off of a non-piped chick.
do you think this was the interference of the other broody, making the mom hurt the babies?

I DONT want this to happen again with my broody silkie marshie, who is hatching is approx. 5 days. im moving her to an isolation coop located in the actual run of my big coop.

Can anyone suggest anything? ive heard silkies are great moms...

2 turkey poults (both lavender)

35 total hatched from 134 total set

This hatch sucked! I pulled a LOT of clears a week in (I was still checking fertility on 3 pens) then I had a lot of late quitters from the bator that spiked to 110F & I didn't catch it because someone else was turning eggs for 2 days & didn't bother to check temps. The other bator apparently had too high of humidity because I lost a lot of breech babies & had several with open umbilicals & others that were extremely sticky. A lot from this batch pipped & died in shell.

There was a plus however: We had the first hatch from my son's Polish. It's likely a Crested EE since the dominant roo in with them at the time was a Cream Legbar. I love "Poof Heads." Especially if they also lay blue eggs.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this weird egg? All the "specks" are the texture, not color.the left is the weird one, right is normal and smooth.

You cold be making sexlinks. A solid male and a barred female will do that.
