I was messing around with a flock of columbian wyandottes last year and raised 50+ and some end up having straight combs. It was too much work to get good quality out of the birds i had so i sold all of them.
weird.every wyandotte I have has a rose comb. Even the mixes have rose combs and they are bred with RIR which have (in my case very large) straight combs. Wonder why you had so much trouble?
Ok i thought it was a Wyandotte cause it looks eggsactly like one but with a single not a rose but watever i got 4 slw pullets so when there older ill breed and see what comes out
it would be a wyandotte even if it has a straight comb. So if you breed with other slows, you will end up with more slws

I am still waiting on 1 pokey duck to hatch still moving I candled realquick when I placed some other eggs. Friday. I lost 3 chicks 2 FBCM's and a sliky. Everyone else seemd fine. That one brooder is where ihad chicks die a total of 5. Who knows what happed thinking maybe kids brought something in to them from the outside we have a lot of wildbirds.

its at the very top of the Hatching 101 article, I think its the first link too!

Total for hatch out of 36 is 8. First time broody hatched only 2 out of 11, she sure is slow at figuring this thing out. I keep having to shove her freezing chicks under her, hopefully the chicks will figure it out on their own soon.

Congrats to all the contest winners........I skipped about 650 posts so I'm not sure what I missed but I know contests were ending while I was gone.

Here are pics of my Easter hatch chicks that got to go outside with their momma hens for the first time yesterday:
