so I just performed my very first eggtopsy. the egg was beginning to SMELL like gym shoes, dead hermit crabs, and sulfer as my younger sister put it. had my dad smell it, "yep, its dead alright"

it had feathers, and it was blonde. I was so sad. the beak was super soft and bendable. the feet didn't have scales, and a little of the gut was drawn. im guessing a day 15 death. today is day 18-19 so yeah.

my mom asked u sure it was dead? I said I don't know, but I guess if it smelled it was.......

Good thoughts

now marshie is sitting on only 2 eggs. do you think its okay if she only has 2 under her when she originally had three? should I put a gold ball under her in the morning to fill the empty space?

Not a problem, she'll adjust.

As long as they don't bite me or eat my chickens. They are welcome here... for now...
I wouldn't be fond of being bitten either. I'm in my 60s, encountered hundreds (perhaps thousands) of snakes in my life and never been bitten. Everything from benign garter and blind worm snakes to copperheads, moccasins, fer-de-lance and eye lash vipers.
Snakes will eat eggs and baby chicks, Older birds will eat the snakes.

...........I skipped about 650 posts so I'm not sure what I missed ...
That's all you can do. I didn't follow along well. NYD HAL and deep snow outside is much easier to follow.

weird.every wyandotte I have has a rose comb. Even the mixes have rose combs and they are bred with RIR which have (in my case very large) straight combs. Wonder why you had so much trouble?
I talked to the guy who i got them from and he said to get better columbian markings and bigger bodies his birds were bred to columbian rocks and he was still breeding his best rose comb birds and culling all straight combs. I would of just had to keep breeding my rose combs to get rid of straight combs.

if we're supposed to post our results here. i had 37 out of 83 hatch.
Thank You!

I am so sorry I have not posted my # of hatched chicks from last week!! sooooo crazy busy with school and homework! I had 3/7 eggs hatch. not exactly the turnout I was hoping for but I'm happy with my little babies! I had two Jersey Giants hatch and one Duckling hatch! I haven't been able to read any threads but I hope everyone's hatches went well!!

Thank You!
Sorry I haven't reported my numbers until now, but the last one just hatched...5 days late! Very disappointed with my results but very happy with my babies! Total hatched -12

7 Khaki Campbell ducklings and 5 Call ducklings. The Bresse chickens I was so excited about looked great at lockdown but never even internally pipped. These were all shipped eggs but heartbreaking just the same. The up side is my next set of shipped eggs already hatched with 85% and I have another shipped hatching going on right now with 5 of 40 out on day 20 and so many more already pipped.

Hatch-a-long Khaki Campbells

Not Hatch-a-long chicks (85%)
Thank You, cute photos.

Ohhh also my hatch was great 11/12 aracauna 5/7 Pekin duck eggs hatched and now I have more aracauna going on lockdown on Wednesday but those were my results my geese were funny the week after ja put my duck eggs in to hatch my goose laid sooo lol
Thank You!

My hatch total - 17 eggs set

and 12 black copper marans hatched :D
Thank You, very cute.

Total for hatch out of 36 is 8. First time broody hatched only 2 out of 11, she sure is slow at figuring this thing out. I keep having to shove her freezing chicks under her, hopefully the chicks will figure it out on their own soon.
Thank You.

My total hatch was 10. 3 Buff Orpingtons, 2 RIR's, 1 White Orpington, and 4 Black Australorps.
Thank You!

Thats awesome! I wonder what would have happened if they left the ducklings with the cat for a few days.

ducks would have starved to death.
I had a cat raise to chihuahua puppies for me once. All the vet told me the pups would die. The milk wasn't good enough for pups. Wrong!!!! the puppies thrived as good as the 5 manx kittens she had. The funny thing is at the time it was time for the kittens and puppies to go to their new homes . The cat didn't even look for the kittens. But she hunted high and low for the chihuahua pups. In peoples coat everywhere.
I think it was because the kitten didn't mind very well as they got older, they were getting way to indented. The puppies on the other hand followed her around, and if they were playing and she called them, they came just running to her with kisses and hugs.
The great difference between puppies and kittens. and a mothers love. It was great to watch...

So all 4 of my ducklings hatched of Friday. They all pipped on Tuesday day 25 and they all hatched Friday morn day 28.

They are just the cutest lol
