Our very first chicks hatching...

number two...
Number three is pushing out of the shell, right now, just one left under this broodie, four more to follow, under an Silkie hen, in about two days....little excited here ; )
I have to get pictures of mine! They just hatched last night!!! One is already fluffed and the other is starting to. another one just POPPED out, another 1 just poked its egg... and the last one is not coming out yet xD

I use my silkies for mama's. They seem to enjoy it allot! Including my older one, Diva. She was bought from amish and was in such a bad condition, also she had 4 little silkie chicks. 2 boys and 2 girls. she just got done with her second mothering. (EE and Seabright). She is already going broody again..... along with her daughter. My other silkie who is not related is hatching the eggs Ive been talking about. Who else uses Silkies for broods?
What do you guys use?

I use any hen that wants to sit...lol
I have used mixed banties, ee banties, silkies, wyandottes...seems my banties like to sit best. The only 1 I steal eggs from is the turkey hens. I want them to keep laying a while before letting them set a clutch.

She pretty!!!

Wow, look what you got

Quote: I don't have pictures of them on the nest yet. Besides, all you would see of Dusty is her rear. (she likes to brood backwards in the nest) Here are some pictures when they were not broody.
