Both. If it is genetic, don't breed. If you suspect improper incubation, go ahead and breed, as it shouldn't show up in offspring.
Usually high incubation temps will cause it.
I agree, it can be either.

Congrats to Chicken Pickin and Bantambury for their CdM Photobomb contest winning photos!

Ok all you awesome people! I need some help here. I have 6 eggs in my Brinsea mini and our power has been out for 16 hours. 8 days left for them to hatch. I put towels over to hold in heat . But will they still be ok. No power yet either. Do not know when we will get it back. Bad storms here in middle ga and flooding. 70-80 mph strait line winds they said. A lot messed up! Do I need to toss them or bring it down to my work, which has power now and try to finish?
I have had the power go out before and put hot water bottles in my other incubators to hold heat and had no problems. But never this long has it Ben out. They said it could be up to 3 days

They should be fine...take them to work with you.

I'd take them to work. They will be fine without power for a while, but not 3 days. Finish them off at work.

What those two others said..take them to work. Yep...bet they are fine.

So, power outage, flooding...where are you in GA?! Remember, I have a son out there. He's in Powder Springs. :/ I hope they get things back to normal for you sooner than thought once the weather settles down!!

So I have a chick that is going to hatch alone. Should I put it with my broody mama who hatched her own eggs? They hatched Sunday and the last one hatched two days ago. Will it be okay to put it under her? If not I have two other broods waiting for eggs! I had to separate all 3 silkies because they were fighting over who will mother the chicks... one of the silkies had already a kid and just came out of mothering thing it and Just went into being broody again. Is that normal?
