Quote: The way I get mine to think about brooding is to remove the egg(s) laid each day and replace them with a golf ball (or plastic eggs filled with sand). Let the number of eggs build-up in the nest. Hens want to "gather" a clutch of eggs before sitting. If your hens have "the broody gene", they cannot resist a nest full of "eggs". Let the number build gradually, don't put a bunch of golf balls in at once. It is also helpful to use a nest that is not the favorite of every hen in the flock. If you do, the busy in and out will not allow her to settle on the nest..........of course, some hens could care less about the commotion and will sit anywhere when they are ready! I am counting on some of mine being ready around the end of the month.......that no one decides to start earlier.....![]()

That box would not stand a 6 foot drop into a bin
Read the packing thread, contact the breeder and have them pack the way you want them packed!

Oh man, don't get me started. This might have to be next spring's hatching project.Cupids Delite has Bantam Lavender Ameraucanas as well as white ones and Bantam Dominiques. If you wanted you could cross the Lave Ams with the Doms and get Sexlink Black barred Olive Eggers split to Lavender. With a few generations more you could set the barring in Lavender and have Barred Lavender Olive Eggers.
My Call Duck, that I've been stalking made a nest today!!! I am so excited to go out there tomorrow and look. That egg is a long time in coming!!![]()
Awwww, bummer.
Welcome!Count me in! I'll be setting that weekend, anyway, so may as well joint along.
I'll have Iowa Blues and some IB crosses.Hatcher and Incubators are fired up and doing pretty well thus far, here's to a good hatch for everyone!
AWESOME! thanks! I may just do this and get eggs last minute to hatch.....The way I get mine to think about brooding is to remove the egg(s) laid each day and replace them with a golf ball (or plastic eggs filled with sand). bummer
I shipped 14 eggs today. was going to send 16 but was out of the large bubble wrap I usually use to line the box around my bubble wrap pouches.
SO i put 14 in a box inside another box with small bubble around it.
I am trading Crele eggs for black penedesenca eggs
I filled the spaces with pieces of small bubble in between the eggs
this small box fit in the other box with bubble
