My delaware chickens are officially addicted to egg eating I have oyster shell with calcium in there pen and golf balls in there nest. I really wanted to hatch some but have not been able to arrive at the nest at the right time to get their eggs out before they eat them. I guess the only option is roll out nest???
Or be quick to collect eggs.

Not to flood the thread with photos but LOOK AT MY NEW BABY CHICKS THAT JUST HATCHED TODAY!!! there are actually 10 total but somehow i missed taking photos of one of the black ones and i can't tell them apart enough to figure out which one. They are mostly barnyard mixes, one EE and two cochin bantams
Adorable, congrats!

I love the spotted ones!

So, I'm buying a doz eggs for next week plus using my own. If my broody continues, do I use her or my still air styrofoam incubator? Or split the difference? Opinions?

Oh, I also hear more chirping now! Its more than one! Yay!!!!!

Sorry can't contain my excitement! Lol

It's always exciting, no matter how many times you do this, the first pip..or sound is..exciting!

split the difference! give your broody 6 and your bator 6 and do an experiment for the best hatch rate! you could do a cool BYC article on that about your observations on growth, dead babies, and more, then you can see which gave you a more accurate hatch!

Serama are all hatched and just put in brooder, two never positioned to pip and Dead in shell

Just moved the majority of the hatch over to brooder. have a bunch remaining with pips and I did a quick candle of the no pips and looks like 4 are dead in shell after draw down :(

Candled all eggs remaining in the cabinet bator, most of Harmonys Silkies she won are clears, I left four eggs in but they dont look good at all, nasty air cells and very odd embryos, she is a tad upset about the silkies but there are plenty of serama anyways!

Wow, that's great Sally. Your hatch is doing great, and still coming along! I am loving those blues.
