Cute picture, and thank you, Cynthia12! I've actually been on BYC for a while--it's how I've learned almost everything I know about chickens because when we started two years ago, we had them in our backyard in a historic downtown area--no one else to learn from! We've graduated and now we live on a farm with 5 acres, we bought a used Joel Salatin-type egg mobile to move around our pasture, and we are excited to be filling it! I now know I'll be hatching a dozen Welsummers and a dozen Olive Eggers (Ameraucana/Marans cross). So excited!
5 acres? No fair! I'll bet you know a thing about raising chickens now.
Wellies and OE's .. nice choice! I tried for a year to get the color of Olive Egg that I wanted. I finally got a nice dark one, but too dark.. then, my EE started laying. It was a pretty dark mint green. I knew she would probably lay a mintish or blue/green egg..so no surprise..until..one day I go out, and find this beautiful Olive Color! She is the only one out there that lays a colored egg. I thought, a fluke, but no..she's been laying the most perfect Olive color ever since. Woot! She hasn't been laying long, she just started out lighter, then darker..it usually goes the other way! But I'm ok with that!
Anybody have any thoughts I know they are not molting as they already did that and had started laying well again the weather has warmed up alot they are now free ranging again and still nada. I am planning on keeping some of the chicks I just hatched to replace all of them at this point but sure wouldn't mind having some eggs to eat.
