Plugged in the bator and egg turner last night. After a year in the box, my incubator is holding a steady 100 degree temp no problem.

Starting to select 41 of my hens' eggs to prepare for setting them on Saturday.
We've been getting some really beautiful BCM eggs this week. Those will for sure be going into the bator. Also some EEs and brown EE crosses.

Just got notification that my Salmon Faverolle eggs arrived at my post office!! YAY!!! Waiting for the call any minute... either way I'm going to stop by after I bring the kids to school.

I do love mine, and uphilljill, I felt the same way you did day 1. I'm going to repost my pic from my 1st moment with the spotcheck because it was so amazingly shocking. Keep in mind my Acurites are 2 years old, and have lived through a lot of incubating. I've read many accounts of their losing accuracy after a few hatches. Now that I adjusted temps according to the Spotcheck they are all agreeing. I think aged ones are faulty at high temps. Mine are completely accurate at room temps still.

AHHHH! 105!! How did you trust that it was THAT one that was accurate?? My other 3 are definitely more accurate than what the spot check is reading

Because it made sense. The last hatch I did, one chick hatched 3 days early, and the rest 2 days early. I had started having hatching issues that I had never had before, yet hadn't changed anything I'd always done. I knew my therms. were faulty. Last hatch I lost all 3 dorkings I had set, but the others made it. I couldn't figure out why only the dorkings didn't. I was thinking possibly they are more temperature sensitive. IDK...

Quote: I checked it taking my own body temperature (I think that was recommended somewhere here.) If I'm 106, then I'm probably dead. I feel fine.

Good Morning everyone!

Got my LG out a few days ago, cleaned and sanitized it, and set it up for a temp test. So far, so good. I still don't like that there seems to be a 2 degree difference between the front of the incubator and one of the back corners, but after realizing that both locations are cycling up and down in temp slightly during the natural heat cycle of the LG, I feel a little better. Hopefully I can get it to a good viable temp average for both places, and I will be switching the eggs around when I candle so they aren't always in the same corner. ( I do have a fan and turner in this LG btw.)

In other news, no luck in finding local Silkie hatching eggs

, BUT I have a good possibility of getting a few Polish hatching eggs for my broody Bantam instead!

Another new, "fun" breed for me - I'll take it!

I have most of our home flock hatching eggs collected already - just a few more to pick out today and tomorrow... Can't wait to set them all on Saturday!!!
