The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

My first hatch was this weekend. Disappointing, but the weather for the eggs was cold, I'm sure that hurt them. Still around 50%.
My first baby rabbits all came out of the nest box over the weekend, too. Only 3, but a start.
Eggs set for the next 3 weekends, more rabbits due the middle of April, plus it's time to start the garden.
Going to be hard to even attempt to keep up with this thread!

Thank you so much for posting this! I had no idea what this would look like!

So glad it helped!!

I've been warning people for a while about Brinseas.. had a bunch of them and every one had issues
Sorry you lost all those eggs.. but I can feel your pain.. I had one that kept rising in temp well over 120 and still rising.. they reside at the dump now
People tend to forget that Brinsea is in the market to sell incubators.. they are not a hatchery.. so they really don't care about your hatch rates or if their products have problems or design flaws.. so long as they make a profit they're happy.....

I love my coolerbators!

If it's not too late, I'm setting 30 eggs right now.
25 pure black Penedesenca.
2 JaerhonXblk pene
3 AmeraucanaXblk pene

Just too much going on here to be on time.
Not to mention, the wife went on a cleaning spree yesterday and took all the eggs that I had sorted by pedigree and mixed them up in the refrigerator egg bin. So, I had to start collecting all over.
~~Thanks dear.
Further issues are that the newer eggs were in the nests overnight when it got down to 28. Always an experiment.

It is a water heater thermostat. Not sure what kind of heating element you have but if you use one of these they measure by radiant heat. So you have to place it close to your heat source, like within 1-2 inches of the heating element. My cooler bator holds the temp directly on 99.6° f with virtually no fluxuation at all.

When is she due?

any day? We were called last week (Tuesday) from our shelter asking if we'd foster a Mama cat and her kittens and she was ready to pop then...so she's been here since tuesday afternoon ((the 25th?) and nothing yet...she's big on both sides, eats more each day...bowl of dry food + 3 cans of wet food today...so I keep checking and watching...we don't know when she got prego so we really don't know when they're due. The shelter doesn't either...

I opened the door to the coop this morning at 6 to let everyone out and then I went back to check on my broody hen at about 9:30 to see if she had left the nest to eat anything. When I got outside I saw feathers everywhere but not blood. I couldn't figure out what happened because everyone was out there that should have been. I went to the coop after the outside head count to check on my hen and something had gotten her and in the process crushed 5 eggs. I grabbed the other five and they were cold. I decided to bring them inside and put them in the incubator even though I don't have much hope that they'll make it. After bringing the eggs inside, I went back outside to clean up the mess in the coop and put all the chickens back in the coop, but when I got there I saw more feathers. I looked around to see who it was this time and in the back of the field behind my house I saw a fox reach the wood line with my favorite rooster in his mouth.

BUMMER! GRRRR... How frustrating! Could you catch the fox and release it far away?
