ok so that quote just made my heart melt! the chick is too cute!!!
on my new years hatch, I had my Japanese silkie cross pip the egg at 5 PM and didn't progress until about 9-10.....then didn't hatch until 8 AM the next day..... a full 15 hour hatch.Advice from a hatcher....? My pip is still not going any further. It's still just an x shaped crack in the egg, no beak yet. I am starting to worry, I do hear faint peeping, but it happened at noon today and still no progress. None of the other eggs look pipped. Last time I tried an assist I was too late. Should I just wait it out? It's a Pyle leghorn.
Mr. Front and Center needs a big "
We have not used it as for a broody hen but can if we wanted....We have a plastic dog house which we placed into a movable covered pen. We lined the bottom of the house with straw and it has a 6 ft run. It was originally setup for our 2 bantam cochin roos. (They went missing...we believe our neighbor let them out on purpose...buttheads.) Anyway we are currently housing two Rhodebar roosters in it. It would make a great setup for a broody. I would maybe add a curtain for her to have some privacy.

Ok, Ok I can't wait any longer I have to tell... My 7yr old hacked in to his teachers first in math account! 7 yes 7 yr old... What the crap am I going to do with him!? He is way to smart for his own good! Don't worry, I promptly told him to get off and not to do it again.. But now I am a little concerned... Should I warn Bill Gates that he has competition? CONGRATS!!!! That is sooo exciting!Woke up this morning and noticed that all the clocks were blinking. I guess we lost power last night during the storm that passed through. I'm not sure how long it was out for, and when I checked on the eggs the temp was reading as it should. If the temps dropped low enough for long enough to affect the eggs, how long before I would be able to see evidence of that? And would it look like a blood ring or something of that sort, or would it just not have any progress of development from the last time I candled? I've thankfully never had the power go out when incubating eggs before so I'm not quite sure what to look for.
On a happier note, I just found out my husband and I are expecting a little "chick" of our own! I guess this one is being "set" just in time for the Christmas 2014 Hatch-a-long!! lol Thank goodness I don't have to manually adjust/watch the temp and humidity for the next 9 months for this one!haha![]()

Love her..I keep meaning to get a dark brahma..they are so pretty!Look what we had happen!
She could have been part of the EHAL but I didn't think she was serious. Took eggs away from her every day Mon - Thurs. She very sweetly warmed an empty bucket all week. So I humored her and put six fresh, carefully chosen eggs, under her. She chuckled and fluffed and has warmed them too. Then the kids got excited and there are a few heinz 57 under her too. She's a LF Brahma so who knows how many eggs she can hide! She is so sweet. She just kind of puffs and chuckles. Nothing like the chainsaw murderer shrieks that our last broody emitted every time she saw a shadow!

Sunnyside Up Micro Farms carries them. However mine arrived completely scrambled and not 1 hatched. Not her fault though, they were packed well.I was good at TSC . I did see some little blue feathered footed bantams that I thought about getting. Ok several times lol. But not sure of what they were. I would like to find some hatching eggs to some barred cochin- large or bantam if anyone knows of some. Hint hint
If anyone had photos they could share of their broody quarantines it would help a lot to have some ideas for my broody silkie!
Thanks!
Blarneyeggs built a great broody box...you could ask her for a pic.
OMGoodness, they are adorable! I second the one looking like a chick body building competition. I hear the song Macho Macho Man playing in my head, lol!![]()
