I have so much work to do today. I'm getting some guineas tomorrow and have to enclose my one pen to put them in... I have to try to tear down an old tree house we built for the kids ( this past winter was really tough on it). And of course there is the endless pile of laundry, dishes, and house cleaning.. then there are pens that need cleaned out. Ugh think I am going to need more than one day to do it all. Lol

I'm starting to question my sanity, first time ever setting eggs, so what do I do...... fill the incubator figuring most won't hatch......young hens, young roo....candled all 41 eggs, 1 clear, 2 questionable... 38 look good........

That's what happened to me my last hatch. I got 29 chicks from 37 eggs! 4 were clear, and 4 didn't hatch. Hatch day they were coming out like popcorn! It was super cool, but then I was looking at all these chicks thinking what in the world am I going to do with them?

CHICKENCANOE! YOU LITTLE STINK..WHY..HOW, DID YOU LET ME FORGET YOUR BIRTHDAY? EY? NOW, WAS IT YESTERDAY? OR WAS IT TWO DAYS AGO? YOU HAVE TO LET US KNOW HOW IT WENT. NOW I HAVE TO SEND A BELATED, HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!
Thank you.
The ball game was great. It rained the first three innings so the standing room only tickets turned into 3rd row down the 1st base line. And the barbecue brisket was amazing.

We wished him happy birthday on the Old Folks Home thread, which is amazing since our memories are kind of fading...
That is a wonder.

Happy Birthday ChickenCanoe!
Thanks.

Okay I know it was posted on here before, but I can't find it. What is the best thermometer/hydrometer to use and where can I buy it. I really need something better than the ones I bought at walmart.
I don't know what the best is but I use this and a gram scale.

4 times the poop? Really?

For some reason, I never thought about that. But yes, yes, it does make sense.
Really, and it's more concentrated since they don't travel far.

that is why I basically keep them in a run...with a tarp that covers the back and top. They sleep in the xtra large dogloo..when I am done raising them just tillin the poop. They are 7 weeks now I am going to give them at least 2 more weeks. But I have a faimly of 7 I need bid chickens...8 meaties and 3 pekin ducks get 3 9x13. Cake pans of food a day..crumbles and fermented feed.. they are big going to catch one of the largest in the am put in a pillow case and use a fish scale.
Beekissed says the FF removes some of the stink. Do you find that to be the case?

]I moved my broody to her own pen last night (I even transferred the bedding from the old nest), but she wanted none of that! She didn't sleep on the nest and demanded to be let out with everyone else this morning, even though she had food and water in her pen. But after a little bit, she got back on the nest in the main coop and continued her broody behavior. So I guess she is serious! I gave her my only two viable eggs from the incubator! ...and now I'm soooo nervous! :fl

It's hard to give up control.

Oh, and a related question - the other hens are laying their eggs right next to the broody, and she is stealing them. Every morning when she gets up to go eat, I take them away. But are they safe to eat after she's been sitting on them all night? :sick
