One of my Calls quit probably yesterday. I eggtopsied, which really ticked me off that it was soo cute.Teensy, black with a solid white neck ring and belly. Quite intimidating that it was so tiny and lockdown is on Tuesday for them. Very scary!

Do those of you who have hatched silkies think they hatch any better or worse than other breeds? I kind of want a white silky bantam girl. I don't know if ill be hatching any more eggs after the group in the incubator now or not but was considering silkie bantams if I do.

Today is taking all the relaxation out of my stay-at-home vacation. Going to have to spend it tracking down whatever defective thing caused a 500 electric bill. It's insane. Ruled out the meter being broken, trying to figure out which breaker the culprit is on. With my luck it will be some wiring on the fritz. Hoping it is something I can fix or live without for a while.

50cc's of someone elses's good news stat?

Do you have a well? We had an unusually high electric bill and narrowed down to the well pump that runs on 220. A valve was broken and the pump was running constantly. It is a big power hog so you might check it if you have one.

From my experience only, Silkies are the hardest for me to hatch. Always seem to get stuck. One breeder told me that the vaulted heads can cause issues, but I do not know if that is true or not. Would be interested to know if anyone else ever heard that?

Our power bill gets pretty high, but then we are also powering 4 outer building (woodshop, horse barn, chicken nursery and a work barn). We are also getting ready to change our electric fence to a solar powered one, so hopefully that will help.

We have two wells on our property, we were considering change from city to them, but now that you guys mentioned the well needing electric (which we totally forgot about)...may need to rethink. Thank you for the heads up.

Its great that there is more than just help for hatching on here!

No, but good to know - considered one as part of long term plans. No power out to the barn either - guess the upside to both is having less places to look.
