IT CAN!!?? Oh wow, awesome!!I just lined my bator with it and put my eggs on it. How do you all use it in the brooder??? Just over puppy pads (just bought some) or paper towels? Then you rinse the poo off a few times a day?

I just put it over the shavings, or you can put it over what ever you are using..

Quote: yuppers, I wont buy white or cream colors anymore as they seemed to have little discolored stains from those first green poops, I need to get more, and after a while it gets flimsy with all that bleaching though, do you bleach before you wash them? I would assume so because they can get really pooped up! I seen some use them in the brooders, I may buy a bunch more and use it instead of paper towels for the first few days in the brooder.

BLEACH!! oh that reminds me!! @lizanne just made me aprons to save my shirts from bleach demise!!! I always have bleach stains along the lower part of my shirts! She made Harmony and I matching aprons out of feed bags!! I love them with big pockets for hauling stuff with us when we do the chickens!!

here is lil Luke sporting his sissys like a champ, why did I not get one made for the littlest girlyboy? ha ha ha

My thoughts, If you have added the extra boost of humidity where is the risk? There is great benefit for duck and turkey, I have never added humidity until I see internals on them. With chickens there is no better indication of hatch, since temp and humidity variations between hatchers effect this timing more than anything. Again, I see no risk opening if you add an extra boost to humidity, and at that stage in the game just a tad high for a few minutes isnt going to effect them.

Envisions the movie day after tomorrow, when the freeze comes in and everyone is panicking...

seriously I wouldnt suggest if I didnt practice it.

What is draw down? And when you say you wipe the lid - can you explain? Like I would take a wet washcloth and wipe the inside of the lid or sides? Is that what you mean?

I use it in hatching trays. Others use it to line the top of eco glow heat plates. The Brooder would be a great use and over puppy pads would be good.

Love this stuff, for lock down, and for the brooder for a couple of days. I get mine at the dollar store.
Do you ever have problems with the eggs sticking to it after pipping? I used it in my Genesis the hatch before last. 3 of the eggs pipped, started to zip, and got bumped by chicks so they turned pip side down. The opening stuck to the shelf liner and the chicks died. I didn't even know that they had pipped until I removed the eggs on day 24. Poor babies!

hatching incubator is on............. temperature is coming up............excitement is building.............tension is mounting.................sit on my hands !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah another awesome use! I will totally use it on top of the heat plate I have. I have sticky shelf liner I am going to put over it and then I'll just put a piece of the rubber shelf liner over that.

Oh poor babies!! :-( How sad that must have been to discover they stuck to it! I'm glad to read this as I will make sure to keep a close eye on any that may end up in a similar position pip down...

Quote: I pasted info from the 101 article, in there is a link to fully understand the hatching process.

What you will notice is the bigger dip in the air cell and the back of the egg (or the high spot in rear) will actually show some protrusion of the chick however its still inside the inner membrane.

I had taken a video and posted it on the diary thread, I thought you saw it? perhaps I can find it to show what draw down is.

No, they never stick in the tomato baskets. No sticky chicks allowed here!

See the SG Dorkings standing on the shelf liner?
