So....what's everybody hatching? Not numbers. Just breeds.

I'm either hatching my own backyarders or whatever I can trade mine to a friend for.
Either way, I need good layers and possible brooders.
I have Wyandotte, Leghorn, Comet, and Bantam Cochin, oh, and Orpington.
The only purebreds I have are white Leghorn hens and a Bantam Cochin Frizzle pullet.

I have silver appleyards. All my ducks, chickens, and turkeys all share a coop and pen. But I will be making a new pen for my turkeys now that they are mating with my chickens. And really tearing them up. I used a dinner bell and treats every night when the sun started setting and taught the birds to come into the coop. Now at dusk I go out and all my birds are already in the coop.
Is that where the "turken" comes from?

My ducks are the first one in the pen at night. As soon as it gets dark they head in, followed by my chickens, then finally the turkeys. Atleast the ones that didnt decide to roosting on my house. Lol

Which ones roost on the house?

We go out of town in the summers and I need them to go in on their own.

My friend has the Pekins, and I watched them for a week last year. They had never been penned up at night before they went on vacation. Within 3 days they had not only learned where their coop area was but they would sit at the top of the driveway each night waiting for me to get there, and then race me to their "house". I was in complete love with them by the end of the week. They were so intelligent. My Calls took a good couple of months to get it through their heads, but now I say Nite-Nite Time and they run in their hut.

I dont think chickens and turkeys can interbreed. And just my 2 toms will occasionally roost on the house. But thats usually when theres no wind, whick is never at my house. Or if my dog scares them up b4 they make in the coop.

Which ones roost on the house?

I just may have to do another set on march 29 yay....I have some hatching the second week of march

Woohoo! I'm coming out of hiding for this! I am going to try hatching Cream Legbars. Now to find a seller!
