Who you callin' a slacker?!

Okay, I'm in since Easter is late enough that the chicks may have bare ground by the time they're able to go outside......

......I just hope some of the girls will decide that going broody is a good idea of an April Fool's joke so I can move eggs from the 'bator and let them do the tough part of it!

Not changing the avatar.......but here is a pic.......BYC shirt and cutest granddaughter in the whole world......

aww, you have lap dogs..big ones. I have two lap dogs too, but, smaller. Then I have my big girl outside..a Golden R. I work with her outside..she is a great dog..love them, she is my third.
Yep, can't sit down without at least one dog jumping on my lap. Are the Goldens ok with your poultry?

Ok strange question I know, but does anyone know what kind of grass grows best on clay soil? We have been working for years to try to get grass to grow in our yard. Oh, also, it is mostly shadded in the summer. Sorry but I am just totally frustrated with no grass and all mud!

Well here is the best part- I got Ben and his friend "Eli" for free because the lady said they were too ugly and she didn't want them.
I'll be honest Eli is ugly, but in a cute ugly sort of way lol

Here is "Ugly Eli"

Vinegar is a cool idea. I'm trying the penny method, right now...the theory behind putting a penny into the well is that copper ionizes the water and kills bacteria. I had quite a time finding one from before 1982. I've got a 1979 in there! Luckily my husband keeps a bunch on his desk. We hunted for an hour

.My DH loves old coins so if he finds them he keeps them so I am sure we have a penny that would work. Should you clean the penny before using it? The oxidize over time and was not sure if that could cause any issue.

I have a few frizzles and I LOVE them!. I started with two roos who I got as day olds 2 years ago:

Turuk (my husband named him after the crazy dinosaur in Avatar)

And Andy (short for Androgynous - who masqueraded as a hen, having no spurs and little interest in the ladies until the other roos moved out, but crowing)

Then I hatched a few myself:

Baby FluffNPuff

Frizz (also her identical "twin" sister Baby Frizz from the next hatch)

And in my experimental July hatch (during which I found out it was much too hot and humid in MN to hatch chicks without central air and that I do not enjoy keeping baby chicks in a brooder in my kitchen to keep their climate controlled properly):

Delilah

And her brother Doodle.

I'm hoping for some frizzled Easter Eggers this hatch since I bred Doodle with my Ameraucana/Araucana cross hens. I sold Turuk and Andy to nice homes (Turuk went to bring frizzle to a flock of Seramas and Andy went to live a pampered life as a pet rooster)
I have found though, that the crazy frizzling of the feathers has predisposed these chickens to a greater degree of bullying by the rest and they are always the ones to get the most feathers picked off them by the rest of the flock. And in order to keep their feathers in prime condition, they need a little more protein and vitamin suppliment than the smooth feathered birds. But I still love them. :)

I use Fescue here and we have clay soil. Roots are deep and strong with Fescu.
