Ahhhh, caught up on like 500 posts. Candled last night the 70 eggs in the 'bator. Tossed out 9, mostly clears and a couple obvious blood rings. There are another maybe 8-9 question marks in there (ones I'm not ready to toss, but are probably not all growing.) DH said to toss the ?s, but a lot of them are the blue eggs, and they are just hard to see through, so I'm going to try candling them again the next time with his crazy super high power Stinger mechanic's flashlight. Should be able to see inside them with that thing and will have more confident blue egg results. Looks like since the winter subzero temps broke, fertility is way up! So excited for fuzzy butts. Though I might have to cut down on how many I set for the HAL if this batch does as well as they look like they are going to. DH is not about to have 100 fuzzy butts running around before spring is really here! Hoping to sell a bunch of them before Easter.

I know there has been some discussion on different candling methods. This is the flashlight that my husband bought me for Christmas. It is the only thing I have found to show development in marans eggs. I have even been able to see veins in some of the eggs. But definately development. Warning...Do not look into the light, you will see spots for days lol.

Also, it is bigger than it looks and you need to block some of the light to candle.

That looks bright. This is what I'm hoping DH will let me borrow for my second candling esp for the blue eggs.

Well my friends, time for me to get some sleep. School busses wait for no one. Lol

Looking forward to the get together tomorrow night! With the York folks.

OK well, Good Night. I think I'm starting to not make any sense.... :/

I'm doing rowans, ruins, ru-uns, rowangs, or ruuns. Rouens.

What I set will depend upon who goes broody. My tried and true Australorp will get Mottled Java eggs super excited because I have wanted these for over two years!

No one else has ever set before ( I was able to break the flower pot setter by putting an upside down bowl in her "nest") so they will get homegrown...either project Silkied D'Uccle or Hybrid; Del over California Grey. I am hoping the hybrid makes a sex link. I have only hatched one before and it was a cockerel. Jet Black with a white head spot. Want to see what the girls look like.

Tonight that cockerel is whats for dinner. I am braising him in cranberry wine sauce.
You definitely need to post the recipe for that cranerry wine sauce!! Pleeeeeeeaaasssssssse

Quote: That sounds like a recipe worth looking up!!

Quote: Oh...not pix of me then. I still haven't dragged out the weed whacker. Still too cold for shorts...lol
Aye -yah, still too cold fo' shots.

Quote: PM sent.. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

I was eating pizza and diet pepsi when I came across this.

I think i have some peperoni all the way up my tear duct.

BTW - I have them french named ducks in my bator right now - maybe thats why I found it so hilarious

You forgot to add ROVEN. I had a little Amish boy at the swap last fall swear the duck he was trying to sell me was a ROVEN and even spelled if for me. I spelled & pronounced ROUEN back to him but he still didn't believe me.
Amazes me some of the things people try to sell you. I had another Amishman swear BBRed was the breed of his "banty rooooster." Wasn't able to convince him that they were Old English Game Bantams & BBRed was the color either. :hmm
