Egg-citing!

Just got an email back from the guy I sold my Red Pyle Old English Game roo to earlier this year. I wanted to keep him, but had too many roos and not much in the way of hens that I really wanted to breed with him. The guy had a nice flock of Seramas he wanted to cross with my roo. I asked about buying some hatching eggs from him. He's gonna let me know when he has some available to sell me. He recently hatched a test batch and his hoping to hatch a few more for his flock first. Since my only hatch that would have had any of his genes got wrecked by a bad thermometer

and someone unplugging the 'bator to charge his phone

, I am really looking forward to these eggs. Also have wanted to hatch Seramas so this is a two for one.

There are a bunch of very poor egg packers for shipping out there. In my signature file there is a link to the Great Egg shipping experiment that @Wisher1000 started. We have learned a lot about what it takes to pack eggs and get them safely to the recipient.

I shipped these on Saturday. They were delivered yesterday to North Carolina from California. I bet they hatch well too. It is in the design of the packing!

I got eggs from ronott1. All the eggs were in tack and not one crack.

This was the outside box. I have to say the packaging was amazing. I wish the hatchery I bought eggs from had done this good of job. out of their (hatchery eggs) 48 eggs I had over half that never had a chance.

This box was inside the first box.

This was the second box. More bubble wrap.

After taking the buble wrap off the top I found the eggs wrapped with more bubble wrap.

Each one in its own wrap.

Not one broken or cracked egg. Now for the incubator.

Ron you did an amazing job packaging these eggs. Now lets see what happens in 21 days. Thanks again, so much!

Woke up to another hatched chick and one zipping......Almost up to 9. I think the one that pipped early yesterday evening did not make it. It had such a nice pip too.
First to pip, last to zip that's what happens at my house
100 PAGES MISSED.... WOW ! Morning all.
Oh my if you were mine you would still be grounded lol
I didn't ask my parents if i could buy the pig. I did it and took care of it and now my parents are fine with it. Because i knew if i asked it would be a no.
I'm a sneaky one.

So I officially have a broody bantam hen. She has been more on the nest than off the past week and the past 2-3 night slept on the nest. I just took 2 eggs out from under her and let me tell you she was not happy

.

I know a lot of you are wishing for broodies right now, but I soooooooo did not want a broody this early in the year. Agh what to do with her now.
Wait a week, then give her some Easter eggs to hatch.

Welcome!

the only way to really know an emu's sex is to wait three years or send some broken shell with membrane for dna sampling

its about 30 bucks but worth it if trying for a pair
Correct.

here goes my catch-up response...

Kismet - im actually right on the border of Vermont =) in Sullivan County. My username is Maineiac because i was born and raised in Maine so im a Maineiac at heart.

Ozexpat - we have spare PC fans so we will probably add one of those if its recommended. thank you for that, we werent sure if one of those would work but cant even find a fan to price out.

Pickitfarm - thanks for the link! im going to read up. but glad to know the incubator works =)

Sally Sunshine - thank you for so many links! i dont want to spend any money on someone elses eggs if i dont have any experience hatching, so might as well use my own. i mostly have easter eggers and those are perfect for an easter hatch a long! and they are pretty sought after around here if i dont keep them.

Chicken Pickin - hello! i like meeting people from NH here, its easier to find poultry without shipping or long drives! haha by the way, for those of you in southern NH or VT (around Springfield or even White River Jct) im looking for Cayuga ducklings, turkey eggs or chicks (?) and some Tolbunt Polish chickens if anyone around has any ;) or eggs of those once im comfortable with hatching on my own =)

thanks to everyone else for the welcome =)

If you go to Project Free TV you can watch your shows on the internet. As a free user you are subjected to a lot of popup ads and you need to close all those windows before running your show. After midnight some of the ads can occasionally be racy. You also need to click the X's on the two footer ads under the movie screen. The best hosts ask for conformation words before running the show so they know you are not a machine. Their links work better. If you subscribe (pay) you don't have to fool with the ads. It is a little annoying at times dealing with the ads but since it is FREE I don't complain much.
