Argh, I want another incubator and some eggs to arrive in the mail, so badly. I am quickly being sucked into the addiction of hatching, a Hatch-A-Holic as they call us.

Ok, let me clarify what my friend told me then. She told me of huge black cats (Panthers) roaming around where she lives. They had some big cat take their German Sheppard a few years back. That is what she told me anyhow.

Panthers are not technically a species. The term panther refers most often to black leopards and black jaguars, which are actually just melanistic individuals. Panthera is the genus of large cats. The Florida Panther is really a puma and is the same color as a mountain lion.
In what state did your friend see these? Possibly melanistic puma? Where I live in Southern CA, black jaguars have been seen. They are more common in Mexico and South America.

I hope your cold is gone!

I was actually wondering, do any of us actually EAT eggs anymore?

I do... But they are store bought usually. I usually... um... SET ALL THE EGGS!
I have put 3 dozen of my blue wheaten/wheaten Ameraucana eggs in the fridge. I am about to put #4 in there. It makes me sad I have no more incubator space. I weep for those potential chickies.

My turkey poults from Meyer should be here tomorrow morning!

Okay...timing of this really stinks....!!!! But, I have an R-Com incubator which is the ONLY incubator I wanted running right now...... it has for some reason stopped turning.
barnie.gif
It has a wheel that turns and makes the bottom tray slide back and forth which rolls the rollers and makes the eggs turn. I have been using this for parrot eggs because it turns them so gently. I have eggs in it now, including my hatch-a-long pheasants and ducks. I fired up another bator to transfer eggs to if needed. (Really, I'm going to need more space for chicken eggs on Friday anyways...

) Was hoping to keep duck and chicken separate...

Does anybody know this incubator and might you be familiar with this problem?

Well, can't say you didn't warn me! I have a red sexlink on my back porch right now. I don't think she's gonna make it thru the night. At least she's had a good life!! Where's my Kleenex? You get so attached!
I'm so sorry you are losing your hen.

Ok..Are we there yet?? I'm ready to go ahead and start incubating!! :) I am NOT good at waiting!!!!
We are SO close. Almost there. Saturday.

Didn't think I'd be joining this, but I picked up 16 BLRW eggs yesterday so I'll collect my EE to add to the incubator to fill it up. I have them in the turner to keep them rotated until the weekend.

Don't think I'm going to try to catch up on all 5100 emails. Not even sure I can catch up on the digest thread but I'll try.

Welcome!

count me in. I think this is going to post right. This will be my first hatch. Im using a little giant incubator that was purchased as a still air but after reading several threads on here I decided to add both a turner and fan kit. Hoping it goes well. Seemed like this would be a good time with all the information flowing. Lets see how it goes.

Welcome! You'll have a lot of help here with your first hatch!

Came home to first baby out. It's one of my backyard mixes and it totally looks like it's going to be heavily bearded! And it's beautiful. I haven't opened the lid yet due to so many other pips, but I took this photo through the lid.

Just about 45 minutes ago I heard a loud cheeping from the 'bator and went in to find a freshly hatched chick from one of my blue eggs. It looks like it will be a smooth headed EE, but if I'm lucky it will be a frizzle :) No photo yet cause it's on a side of the 'bator that is hard to light for photos.

My wrong-end pipper from this morning does not appear to have made any progress. No additional shell cracked and only a small additional tear in the exposed membrane. How long should I wait until I try to help? The chick pipped at least 15 hours ago, probably longer since I was asleep when it pipped.

Tons more pips and getting so impatient. Got the brooder stocked with food and water and the lights are on to get it up to temp. Will probably put the babies in there in the morning just to be sure it's holding a good temp and cause I don't want to open the 'bator lid unless I absolutely have to until a lot of these pips have hatched.
Congrats! Give the chick more time.

. Our very first hatch !,
Congrats!

No, I wouldn't worry. Watch that it doesn't turn really brown. If you haven't opened it and your humidity was up, it should be fine. I have had to wet them down with a Q-Tip before, but I wouldn't risk it if you have other pips.
Very good advise. If the membrane turns brown, the chick is stuck and will not be able to get out. As long as your humidity is good, it should be okay.

Here are 5 of the 7 poults hatched today. 2 more are still in the bator trying to get their feet under them before heading to the brooder & 3 of the ones in this pic were sold less than 30 minutes later. An 8th poult pipped internally but never made it out. I have 5/6 from each of 2 more batches developing. 1 batch is my eggs & the other is shipped.
Awwww, cute little poults!

Want an opinion. Someone was talking about isolating certain eggs from each other so that they don't get breeds mixed up during hatch. What to you think of using strawberry plastic boxes for this? They have ventelation slots in them already and can hold 3 to 4 eggs depending on the size of the eggs. Since they have lids that would help control the popcorn effect in quail too.

That would be fine if it fits in your bator. I 2nd the foam shelf liner to line the bottom.

These eggs were laid 2 months before they were suppose to. They were not suppose to lay until April!
Awwwwww, adorable!

That is hilarious! You'd better watch out Ron!

I've got a second pip!

Come on little chickies! I REALLY need to get to bed but I'm so excited now I doubt I could sleep. But if I sleep the time will seem to go by faster and maybe I'll wake to a chickie....decisions decisions...I am actually pretty tired...ok bed it is. Fingers crossed for chicks and more pips in the am.
fl.gif
Go to sleep. You'll wake up when it hatches, because they can be loud buggers in the middle of the night!

We're not entertaining enough? We're not that far off.

I do... But they are store bought usually. I usually... um... SET ALL THE EGGS!
