I'm totally in on this one! I've never done a hatch along but had eggs going in tomorrow anyway I'll be putting them in before 9am as I have to work all day. I'll be setting ** total eggs. These will be Birchen Marans and Olive Eggers. If I need to add some BYM to get to ** I will. I haven't caught up on all the posts but wanted to get my name in there!

I got my Bresse eggs for the Hatch-a-long! They were packed wonderfully and have no detached or saddle cells, just a few that are a little loose. I've never received eggs packed like this and so far I'm extremely hopeful after the initial candling. Let the incubation begin!

Two silkies might have jumped in my shopping cart at TSC yesterday. Don't tell my kids...they already think I'm crazy. I put the new babies in with my 3 day olds I just hatched. The biggest BCM pecked the smallest silkie and it turned around and pecked back pretty hard. The BCM took off and hid behind the rest! She really put him in his place and now everyone piles together to sleep.

Those darn silkies for jumping right into your cart!

I set my eggs last night, because many are a week old. That's within the window right?

Yep!

I just fired up the incubator, going to get the temp and humidity all stabilized today. Oh man, it's almost time!!

7710 is my prediction for # of eggs hatched. Good luck to all and happy hatching!!!

Hold on, we're not ready for that contest yet. We have to get all the egg set numbers in, then we'll start the How Many Will Hatch contest.

So latest and greatest hatching plan -- eggs due to hatch today and tomorrow go into the still-air incubator to hatch. The incubator they were in will have the turner removed and I will attempt to pack that sucker full of all the project eggs on my counter that are even in the realm of hatchability range. I'll turn by elevating one end of the incubator at a time. I hadn't planned on hatching so many project eggs at once, but I think this might work out better in the long run - more birds to select from, right?

I was worried about having eggs to hatch due to the number of hens getting the baby crazies plus handing off two dozen hatching eggs, but the others apparently have picked up the slack and I now have cartons of eggs on my counter. Lots of undersized pullet eggs and a few dirtier than I'd like (from girls who still insist on laying on the floor - next to the water, in the calcium supplement dish, under the roost ramp, right in front of the door...they need to get their act together

).

This is possibly why I scheduled a week of vacation the week before expected hatch time -- I will be building a larger indoor brooder and expanding the grow-out space outdoors. (Plus fencing the back 6 acres, yay!)
