I'm a total slacker. Looks like I'm gonna run to Safeway or Trader Joes and pick up some fertile eggs this morning. They should be ready for the 12:00 set time.

I wonder if the duck eggs at Whole Foods are fertile?

ITS SET DAY! EEEEEKKKKK..... So dang excited. I currently have 12 Americana's, 12 EE's, and then I'm waiting the long 1 1/2 hour to go pickup my OE. There will be 13-15 of those. We held out till to day so I could get a few more eggs. I should be home right at set time, unless there is horrible traffic. I'm so EXCITED. 2nd hatch, the bator will be almost 100% full.. eeekk!

What, what? You can actually buy fertile eggs at the store? We just got a Trader Joes, about 45 mins from me. I wonder if I should stop by some time just to check it out.

Yep. I got mine from Safeway last time I hatched grocery store eggs. They were "Rock Island Farms" brand. I think Trader Joe's has a different brand. 6 of 12 hatched (but a broodie broke 2). Just make sure you get the freshest ones. ;)

OK, final number. 67 chicken eggs, 22 duck eggs set. Chicken eggs range from SS, wyondot, frizzle, cochen, wbt japonese bantam/frizzle or SS cross, rir cross, we cross, red leghorn cross, EE, EE cross, Faverol (sp?) Cross, probably some I am missing.. Duck eggs are either Pekin, Rouen, a cross of those two or they could also be a runner/crested/pekin, or a runner/crested/Rouen. Quite an assortment! :)

And the duck eggs.

Some of the duck eggs are a little dirty but I do not wash them unless I have to. :)

Do they actually say fertile eggs on them? Or just is the store eggs always fertile. I never noticed to look at the store bought eggs when I had them before, first off I wouldn't have even known what to look for, and now since I have chickens, I haven't bought any to even see.
