I pulled out two eggs late last night that were bumping the motor in my incubator. I stuck them in the fridge and wrote "don't eat." This morning I find this from my husband who is still squeamish about eating ANY of our backyard eggs...

I decided to candle the two eggs, just to see how it works. My pics are pretty, but you can't tell anything after a day, can you? The yolk seemed to float around in that green egg.
Love it!!

OF COURSE!! WELCOME!!!

Sally thank you. out bator is roughly based on your designs. My girls wanted to spend all their money and some (a lot) of mine on a Brinsea. I said lets try to build one first and see what happens. Long story short we set 10 one got dropped while candeling and one fully developed but never pipped. Now we have 8 six week old chicks in the dining room. Also I set 8 eggs sat. My girls wanted a few more NN's. I work nights so I went to sleep around 4pm. when I got up at 10pm. to go to work and turn the eggs I find 14 in the bator. Turns out the girls (9 &11) wanted to hedge their bets and have been stashing the NN eggs when they were collecting from the coop.I think they thought Dad would not noticed the extras or pull them out if he did. Well they were wrong or right because we still have 14 in the coolerbator. I think I might have to take apart the bator after the hatch date or I might one day here random peeping from their room.

My family has decided we are going on vacation On the weekend of April 19th and 20th!! Out of all the days to go they chose this weekend. Could I take the chance of leaving my eggs and chicks in the incubator for the 2 most important days with out me watching them?!?

LL

ron, I like the fact that you pointed out that the yolk looks good. It's so true, that the birds eating a good diet will show a nice more orange yolk than a less orange one.

Hey everyone! I am currently waiting on a chick to hatch. It's been about 19 hours and there is only a small hole where the chick first started piping. It is alive, moving, and chirping it's head off but it doesn't really seem to be trying to get out. Should I start chipping away at it's shell and try not to hurt them membrane or just leave it alone?
What day is it? how many others have pips and when did they pip? How many hatched and did they hatch fine. He is probably resting absorbing yet. Most ppl panic at this stage ;)

see links in my siggy the assist article has some info to help you understand what he is doing in there :) and do your best to judge when to step.

Is the membrane still nice and white, or brownish in color. It may be resting.

I've joined too.
37 buff orpingtons
25 Easter Eggers
14 white leghorns
Total 76 eggs
Welcome!

Can you have someone take care of it for you?

Totally off topic, but wanted to share. I have a 3 year old that is completely obsessed with the Statue of Liberty. I have no idea where he even came across knowing about the Statue, but he is determined to go there. I had a 3 hour running commentary pumping me for information on the Statue last light, I think he's trying to figure out if he can get there on his own. "The Statue of Liberty is in You Nordic City, it's far far away. How we get to You Nordic City?" We'd have to drive for days, buddy, or ride a plane. "Planes are at the airport. How we get to the airport? We drive there "But, where is the airport?" It's in Milwaukee. "But, how we get to Mwaukee?" We drive that way. *point east* "We must get out coats on and drive to Mwaukee so we can fly to You Nordic City and go up the circle stairs hiiiiiiiggghhhhh up his arm to the gold thing."

He's got his sights set. No stopping him. This has been going on for at least 6 months. LOL

Here is a painting from last fall, right after he turned 3. Not a bad likeness, I say.

Last night he painted it again, since I told him we couldn't go to "You Nordic City" now, but in the future we'll get him there.
Not bad for a 3 year old. I showed him how to blend dark blue with white to get varying shades of blue, so he had fun with that.
The red spots at the bottom are people (there were lots of red t-shirts on people in the picture he was looking at)
and the black areas are windows and doors so he can go inside and climb up into the statue.

He's my little painter. So darn cute.

That is soooo wonderful! He looks like such an artistic boy, he paints well.

Might be a silly question, but if you pulled them from the incubator why did you put them in the fridge and then write don't eat on them?
