Hi Sally! This is upsetting. Of course, we will provide a refund. This being said, we do get them on a weekly basis DIRECTLY from Brinsea as their facilities are only a couple of miles from us. So we don't stock them longer one week. My guess is that they were stored in a humid area at the Brinsea warehouse. So if you do orders those again - from wherever you purchase them from, I would recommend having the batteries checked. This is today the second complaint about the Spotcheck. So obviously, we got a bad batch from Brinsea. I do apologize for this, and we will provide a refund straight away ... Again, we are sorry about all the inconvenience this caused .

At least I get my money back..... so that said..... what will I try out now! LOL

I got something like this, may even be the same one, and wired it in. There were downloadable wiring directions. Used some of those plastic wire twist caps and some electrical tape, I wired in a fan, too, picked up a nice little computer fan for each of them. Temps got a LOT more stable for me...then I got the cabinets and haven't looked back. LOL, I wired up 2 foam bators and a little two tray homemade incubator with them right before that, but certainly don't need to run them now. At least, not yet!

Sorry, I can't give you more detailed directions, would have to just look back at the wiring directions, but it was pretty straightforward.
Thanks! This is great! I wish I could afford a better incubator, but I really mostly use them for hatching in my classroom and whenever I can get my hands on fertile eggs. That's why I'd like to try to improve on the 2 extras I have....they are pretty good for the classroom. They hold a bunch of eggs, and my first graders can get a good look in there. Unfortunately, I'm not really supposed to have chickens where I live, but I love hatching them, so I just donate the chicks back to whoever gave me the eggs or my friends who live in chicken friendly spaces. All my original chickens live out at my in laws house and they told me no more! lol Do you think I could sneak a few more in without them noticing? If anyone has any tips on how to double your flock without being noticed let me know!!

the one I got is very accurate.. I have double checked it with two other thermometers and mine has been right on the money... lol.. dunno if I got lucky or just what.. but so far it's been perfect!
I started using it for checking the temp of eggs while still in the shipping boxes this past winter (would place the other two thermometers in the box on the eggs and close it up for a half hour.. then open the box and check with the gun).. gave me a nice reading on how cold the eggs were.. then tested it on eggs in the incubators (with the other thermometers in place)... still gave me perfect readings
So for now it's my "go to thermometer" for all 6 of the coolerbators
your milage may vary.. but like I said.. the one I got is perfect

Day 2 in my wipeubator... Temp is holding steady at 99°F. Humidity is at 55%... At 36 hrs, I did the first turn. The whole wipeubator is tilted laterally about 30°. I have it sitting on a folded wash cloth. I have another cloth on the other side for the next turn. I added rocks soaked in 108°F water for 30 minutes just added to stabilize temp. Thanks to Sally Sunshine for that tip.

What a day and now I need to play catch up!! Had to run Little one to urgent care and they sent him to ER for IV and tests for possible appendicitis, Thank GOD for test results showing not an appendix issue, he was sent home with unknown illness and with antibiotics and a check up tomorrow, is labs were bad, white bloods up and a ton of other things. Still high fevers but at least the motrin brings it down. I am not sure the hospital was a good deal or a bad, look how dirty that place is, I dont feel like I need to clean my house now! Good grief, this was our room at entrance in the ER Pediatrics!!! see image below! We finally brought him home to rest and I checked that egg I posted the video of is pipped YAY for that at least, image below. I never got to the post office to mail the chicks out :hit 4:30 was the last call for express mail! And then I opened my mail and LOW AND BEHOLD there is my SPOT CHECK! It doesnt work and we opened it and the battery is corroded to the point of RUSTING as is the internals on the spot check! NOT A HAPPY CAMPER! I pray the day ends better than it has started! Now off to get to my messages and then read a zillion threads to catch up!
GoodNESS Sally! Hope things get better for ya, girly.
