awww, kitties!

Kind of like chicks, if they are distressed, you will hear complaining. Watch for anyone off in a corner. Make sure to gently handle them before their eyes open. Our cats growing up would demand attention if you were in the room with them when they were delivering and right after. I don't know if the momma cats were seeking comfort or instinctively trying to draw attention away from their new kittens, or if the hormones and endorphins from the labor sort of made them a bit stoned. She should settle in after it wears off.

She sent me pics of one of the frizzles!! I am so happy!! OMG they are alive!! God is good!! YAY!!!!

i am catching up but i thought i will add a comment

sorry if it is too late

the thermostat will turn the heating element on and off and cause temp fluctuations. you need to check each spot for a couple of on-off cycles

Thanks Oz. I figured that it was cycling a little, since the temps were a bit different at different times, but I didn't touch the thermostat knob. I have decided not to worry too much about it. I think I have it at a decent temp overall - I haven't seen the hot corner much over 102ºF at peak, and that seems to keep the cool corner in the high 98ºs. I DID rotate the eggs from front to back on each side yesterday (day 4), and I will switch them to completely opposite sides/corners again on day 7 or 8 when I candle. Hopefully everyone will get time in the warmer and cooler spots that way and it will even out overall.

I have to confess though, with all the early candling posts yesterday I couldn't stand it and had to peek!

So last night once it got dark enough I just lifted the lid a bit and held the flashlight and foil tube over several eggs without moving them... And I am sure I saw quite a few with tiny veins growing!!!!! Squeeeee!!!!!

Can't wait until this weekend when I can candle them all legitimately!!!

So i read allot about the most humane way to cull birds. My conclusion was an axe and decapitation was the quickest and most humane.

Whats everyones thoughts.

Also what do you guys think about starter fluid(ether) in a bag. Squeeze the air out inject starter fluid and tie bag up. Someones trying to say they go to sleep and suffocate while sleeping. I dont think it works like that
Lots of discussions of this in the meat bird section.

I agree that it depends on the person. We use a sharp hatchet and a stump with nails in it. It works for us and is very humane. If I have a chick I have to put down, I use sharp pruning shears. It's never enjoyable, but sometimes necessary.

I would never use ether, but that's just me. I've read that it burns their eyes, lungs, etc and just doesn't sound like a good way to go.

Alrighty, this is too funny not to share. Last night I was worrued my thermometer was wrong, so I decided to go out and get a wiggler. After hitting 5 stores, I couldn't find the tube kind and had to improvise.

The only jelly filled item we found was a chicken :p Best part? The only access to take temperature is through it's butt.

@Sally Sunshine I am just about certain the thermometers are right. I have three. Two of which are spot checks and both have same reading when doing an oral temp on myself and in wigglers in my mini and cooler. I was freaking out last night so I just moved all the eggs to the coolerbator.

And here in about an hour I am calling brinsea to send this 20 in for service since it's still under warranty.
