Thank you. So I have it set right? That's the one with the air cell on the side.

Have y'all seen my hatcher?
Yes that looks good. Watch it if it pips for liquid comes out of the pip. If it looks like it is hatching late, after the others, it is ok to make a small pip in the big end of the egg.

Remember to not help unless absolutely necessary. Read the guide to assisted hatching.

An awww moment..watch until the end..the horse really gets going with the kisses...what?

Even tho the air cell isn't in the big end. And I've read it many many times. I had to help Luke the lone duck.

Oh that's awful. And out of morbid curiosity, I do wonder what a squirrel nestbox looks like...

That's really terrible. And funny. Hens laying in a bucket of dead squirrels is just the kind of off the wall thing that would happen to me... if I had a bucket of dead squirrels. And we have ENOUGH squirrels here, I really wouldn't mind if they were in a bucket instead of in my attic/walls...

Quote: I cut the band part of a water balloon off and use it to band my babies. It will stretch quite a bit and will last for several weeks. Since it is stretchy, if you let it go too long and it gets tight is is still fairly easy to remove.

Since we have some kitty people on here...
I have a small issue. Night, my cat who had 5 kittens this morning, has not dried them or herself. The placentas are still attached. Can I cut the cords? If so, how far from their stomachs? Do I need to do something to limit blood flow? Disinfect? I have no iodine but have triple antibiotic some place. I really have never had a cat this dumb to having babies.

ETA: Night lost a lot of weight during pregnancy. She was already a small cat - an Asian body type - and now her hips and back bone are sticking out. I am actually afraid she may not be able to nurse these kittens. She did bag up a little, but not a lot. I was going by that for when she was due. I knew it was soon, but she didn't really have enough milk - especially for 5 kittens!

BTW - Night is a blue calico. Looks like we have one orange, two blacks a blue tabby and either a black or blue calico.

With goat kids we tie the cords off with floss at belly and cut the navel string at about 2". Then dip the navel (belly and all) in iodine.
