well.....I gave my broody 2 week bantam chicks one time. one day she was broody, the next she was running all around the coop. I think the chicks snapped her into reality......Anyone know if it would really mess a hen up to give her chicks just a few days after she started going broody?I was really hoping that some of our broody veterans would get their act together in time to adopt some of these HAL chicks, but so far no one is volunteering.
A couple of them (BO's) are clucking a little when they are walking around, and one BA sat on a bunch of eggs in the coop almost the whole afternoon yesterday, but she was out with everyone else today. I was hoping they would start at least a week before the chicks were due to hatch, and I would even give them some of the fertile eggs from the incubator to finish hatching. It is just so much easier to have a hen raise the chicks, especially if you are planning on integrating them into your flock later anyway.![]()
Oh well, I will keep hoping. Only 11 more days to go til hatch day!![]()
