Bees are not wasps or hornets! Don't confuse them - such an insult to the bee! Hornets and wasps are more defensive of their nests (we might call it aggressive, looking at it from an opposite point of view) and can sting multiple times, while a honeybee dies shortly after stinging, leaving his stinger in your skin (brush it away, then much less swelling, if any). Honeybees will only sting when protecting their hive - in the fall they tend to be a little testier, because they are guarding their winter supplies of honey.
