The 5th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

So it has been a year since I hatched any chicks. Should we be putting our Easter Hatch-a-long eggs on lockdown on Wednesday?

Mine is a funny world. Sunday lasts 43 hours!

Mrs Oz and Cocobeach is 19 hours ahead so I live strange hours as I deal with the goings on over there as well as here.

her day started by heading back from the city to the farm. She got home around 4pm to find the both the lights out in one of out hatchers on day 20 and the temp being 88 degrees in there for about 6 hours.

The new gardener did not think to text her for advice but rather wait til she got home.

Not being a chicken lady, she called me. So at 1 am PST on my Sunday, we worked to save the eggs. They put new lights in and added a brooder light from the outside to boost warm-up time.

The second brooder had no visible pips (its a cabinet style so harder to see in) but I took that as a good sign for the troubled brooder.

At 6 pm, two hours later, pips started in both hatchers.

At 8 pm there were 30+ visible pips several zips and two BCM crossing the finishing line in the race to hatch. It was now 3 am here. I went to bed.

Now I await for the Philippines to wake on their Monday so that I can get a hatch count on my Sunday.

The hatch should be pretty much over on my Sunday at midnight but we will keep the hatchers locked down until 4 pm on my Monday.

Confused? - you should try it daily... LOL
I think I follow it. I hope you have a great hatch on your Sunday, their Monday.

I'm jealous. I need to go mess with all my guns. They need shot bad. I can hear them calling me now. Just don't have time between hatching, housework, building the new coops, new chicks and our 4 boys. I'ma busy busy mommy.

Ooo, I haven't shot a gun in a while. Sounds fun. Not to brag or...anything....but...I was a pretty good shot back in the day! I did a lot of deer hunting. Did some pheasant..have to admit, wasn't good with the shotgun. I did a lot better with a 30-o6, no scope. Any other rifle. Not great with hand guns..did I say I was a good shot? LOL...I guess, just with the rifles.

That Ruger is a cute little gun. :D

I'm jealous! Have fun.

I need some serious work with the 380. I was terrible.

It is tough to get time to go, I purchased this handgun over two weeks ago and just now got the chance to go. I think we are going to go again next weekend, to practice some more and get me out of the house so I don't sit and stare at the incubator.

We will be messing with our guns a lot more soon. I intent on all of my kids knowing all their gun safety, how to clean, diassembke, reassemble and shoot properly. And my oldest (6 yr old) is almost where I can start teaching him hands on gun safety. Unloaded at first of course.

We have taught our children gun safety as well. Boy Scouts is really good with firearm safety as well. My 14 year old is looking forward to Shotgun shooting at Summer Camp this year.

The last time we took our kids shooting, my DH gave me his Colt 45 handgun (which I have only shot once) and told me to go practice with it. Due to having children and busy lives, I hadn't shot a gun in quite some time. So I went over to the handgun range, and nearby the 2 range masters were chatting. I walked past them and got ready and shot my target. When I was done, I collected my tight pattern of bullseye holes in the target and started to walk back to my DH. One of the men asked me how often I practice my shooting. I replied that I haven't shot in 12 years. Their faces just about dropped to the ground.

So, I go back to the kids and hand the gun to my husband, so he could practice. I showed him my target and he left to go shoot. He came back and said yeah yeah yeah and showed me his target that was not nearly as good. Then he said, "those guys are STILL talking about you over there." They told him - Man, you don't want to tick her off!
