It just turned Day 18 this evening.  Went to put my eggs on lock-down and one had already externally pipped.  Woohoo!  Easter Hatch is underway!

She went broody 8 days ago and she only had one egg. Yesterday I saw the clutch when she was up and there were three more eggs, from different hens. I usually keep really good track of who lays what, but I went out of town and things got complicated. I've collected the right number of eggs today, but I think at least one is climbing on her and trying to lay in her spot...

Can you put her in a separate pen? Or block off her nest so others can't get in? You'll have to let her out to give her food/water. I think a few pages back someone posted a picture of their broody in a nest behind chicken wire. Was a really good idea.

Edit: If that egg was in there 8 days already then it quit very early. No idea why. Maybe there was a scuffle between the other hens & she spent a day off of the egg.

I took that one in the bathroom and candled it, saw just a yolk shadow and decided to crack it and see how far along it was -- probably the extra eggs all came from this weekend when my husband was collecting. How old does this look?

2-3 days.

That egg was the wrong color to be her one 8 day one. I have a rabbit hutch she can stay in -- I was planning on using it for my HAL chicks (if any hatch!), but I guess she'll be done before they're old enough to go outside. How do I go about moving her? Not to sound (ahem) chicken, but she's kind of scary the way she growls...

yuppers, I wont buy white or cream colors anymore as they seemed to have little discolored stains from those first green poops, I need to get more, and after a while it gets flimsy with all that bleaching though, do you bleach before you wash them? I would assume so because they can get really pooped up! I seen some use them in the brooders, I may buy a bunch more and use it instead of paper towels for the first few days in the brooder. BLEACH!! oh that reminds me!! @lizanne just made me aprons to save my shirts from bleach demise!!! I always have bleach stains along the lower part of my shirts! She made Harmony and I matching aprons out of feed bags!! I love them with big pockets for hauling stuff with us when we do the chickens!! here is lil Luke sporting his sissys like a champ, why did I not get one made for the littlest girlyboy? ha ha ha

AHHHHH LOVE that apron!!! So cute! What a sport to model his sisters apron Well shoot - I bought the creamish colored shelf liner... oh well.

Same here. No wiggle, no peeps. I know they're all okay (I candled mine last night due to a scare with a temp spike). Just gotta wait another day. They'll come!

Oh I see. Move her at night when she's groggy. With luck, she won't care what's going on so long as she's back on a nest asap where it's dark & quiet.
